Deputy Consul General at US Consulate General Shanghai

Daniel K. Delk, Jr. currently serves as Deputy Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai. A member of the Foreign Service since 2004, Daniel most recently served as Deputy Political Counselor at U.S. Embassy Islamabad, Pakistan.

His previous tours include service as Deputy Director of the Office of Taiwan Coordination where he was responsible for managing unofficial relations with the United States’ 10th largest trading partner; Crisis Management Coordinator in the Executive Secretariat; a Senior Watch Officer in the Operations Center; Mission China’s senior Human Rights Officer in Beijing; a language student in Taipei; Desk Officer and Staff Assistant in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs; and, Consular Officer in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Daniel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Spanish from Morehouse College and a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. His foreign languages are Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Daniel is married with twin daughters and a son.

Ker Gibbs is the president of AmCham Shanghai. He first came to China in 1985 and has worked in various roles giving him broad exposure to US-China relations and business issues facing American companies operating in Asia. In the 1990s Mr. Gibbs worked for the Boston Consulting Group in Shanghai. Since then he has split his time between Asia and Silicon Valley, serving in executive positions with Apple, Disney, and high-growth Internet businesses. He moved to Shanghai in 2002 as head of Asia Pacific for a Nasdaq-listed network security company that was acquired by McAfee. His career in high tech led him to banking; he became head of technology and media in greater China for HSBC. As an investment banker he worked with Alibaba, Baidu, and other firms advising on mergers and cross-border transactions. From banking Mr. Gibbs moved to direct investments. He was a founding investor in the Crystal Orange hotel group, helping grow the company to 130 properties and 1,500 employees in China. He also led successful investments in real estate, e-commerce, and medical technology companies. Before his appointment as president, Mr. Gibbs was elected three times to the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and served as chairman for 2016 and 2017. He also sits on the board of the United Way in China and volunteers with Renewal, a local homeless shelter. He is an op-ed contributor to the Wall Street Journal, South China Morning Post, and other publications. Ker Gibbs holds a BA in economics from UCLA and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

Meng is the Head of Asia and Oceania networks with the United Nations Global Compact, overseeing over 15 country networks and operations across the region. Before joining the United Nations in 2007, Meng has worked for the non-profit and public sector across the US and in Asia. She was a fellow on Asian public policy with Harvard Kennedy School and book author of “Responsibility Changes the World-UN Global Compact Leading Business Revolution Worldwide”. She speaks regularly at global and regional conferences on the topics of corporate social responsibility, inclusive business, climate change, cross-sector partnership and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Meng has been honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2015.

Mr. Jisoo Chon is the General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai.

Jisoo Chon was born in Seoul, Korea, where he spent his formative years before moving to the United States at the age of 12. He joined The Peninsula Chicago in 2008 as Assistant Director of Food & Beverage and later Director of Food & Beverage. Afterwards he was relocated to Shanghai in 2014 as Executive Assistant Manager, Food & Beverage responsible for the entire food & beverage operation of The Peninsula Shanghai Complex. In 2015, he was appointed Resident Manager and in 2017, he is promoted to General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai.

Spanning seventeen years and two continents, Mr. Chon had been instrumental in the food and beverage operations and management at a number of luxury hotels in New York and Chicago before joining The Peninsula Hotels.

Mr. Chon graduated with distinction in Hospitality and Tourism Education at the Ecole Hoteliere de Glion (Switzerland) and bolstered his technical foundation with Strategic Hospitality Management and Strategic Marketing for Hotels & Restaurants courses at Cornell University School of Hotel Administration (New York). An honorary degree was conferred on him by the School of Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy (New York) where he graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering.

Currently, as the Managing Director of Collective Responsibility, Executive Director of HandsOn China, and a Visiting Professor of Sustainability at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Richard is focused on building platforms that promote long term organizational capacity to address the economic, environmental, and social hurdles that China faces as the country’s economic growth accelerates.

Becky leads the Corporate Affairs function at VF Corporation in APAC, driving all aspects of communications for VF Corporation in APAC. For the last two decades, Becky's primary focus has been to lead comprehensive communications programs that support the company's sustainability strategy, goals, and actions.

Whether it is on mobility solutions or circular design, her work is often about disrupting the CSR model through rigorous dialogue and creative solutions. Becky believes in environmental stewardship and social responsibility, and their inherent connection to business purpose and value. She is currently partnering with NGOs by leveraging VF's sustainability agenda through community projects, education, and dialogue among designers and brands.

Before joining VF, Becky was leading the Corporate Communications function in Shanghai for Adidas, Greater China. Prior to this role, she was Director of Corporate Communications at Ford Motor Company.

Having lived and worked in Toronto, Taipei, Chicago, Washington DC, and Hong Kong, Becky is calling Shanghai home again.

Anders Lennartsson (Country Sustainability Director of IKEA China)

Anders Lennartsson is the Country Sustainability Director of IKEA China. His previous experiences include working as Country Sustainability Manager in IKEA Retail Norway and Global Sustainability Manager in IKEA Food Services. Anders’ responsibility here in China is to lead and enable the implementation of the IKEA sustainability strategy, People and Planet Positive, at IKEA retail including its logistic units.

Motivated by the belief that sustainability goals and actions should be integrated into the business, Anders Lennartsson has worked closely together with business owners to support and push the sustainability agenda for various functions, ranging from commercial, real estate, and logistics.

Anders has worked with his company with three focus areas: healthy and sustainable living, circular and climate, and fair & inclusive. Anders also makes sure that apart from delivering to the global goals in these areas, he also ensures that the company delivers to the expectations of customers, government, and other stakeholders in China.

Based in China since 1985, Dr. Jonathan Woetzel has been instrumental in building McKinsey's China office. In addition to his work helping Chinese and other Asian businesses prepare for global growth, Jonathan is a director of the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), McKinsey's business and economics research arm. He also leads McKinsey's Cities Special Initiative and is responsible for convening McKinsey's work with city, regional, and national authorities in more than 40 geographies around the world. He is a co-chair of the not-for-profit think tank, the Urban China Initiative—a joint venture of Tsinghua University and McKinsey—that aims to develop and implement solutions to China's urbanization challenges.

Jonathan has led numerous research efforts on global economic trends, including growth and productivity, urbanization, affordable housing, energy and sustainability, e-commerce, and the economic impact of the Internet, as well as on productivity growth and economic development in China and Asia.

Jonathan's public sector work is extensive. He has advised national governments in Asia on improving the environment for foreign investors, national energy policy, and economic development strategies. He also leads work with local government authorities, having conducted more than 60 projects throughout China to support local economic development and transformation. This includes working extensively in real estate—specifically, on commercial revitalization—and advising on energy investment strategies and energy productivity and transparency, among other issues.

Jonathan works in the private sector as well, most often on issues related to corporate strategy, operations, and organization. He has served clients in industries such as energy, metals and mining, health care, telecommunications, and transportation and supported the largest company in China in a fundamental restructuring that led to the then-largest foreign listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

Jonathan actively participates in a number of international forums and lectures at the Guanghua School of Business and the China-Europe International Business School, and is also an honorary lecturer at Jiaotong University's Antai Business School.

Published widely in both Chinese and international publications, Jonathan has written five books on China, including Capitalist China: Strategies for a Revolutionized Economy (Wiley & Sons, 2003), Operation China: From Strategy to Execution (Harvard Business Press, 2007), and One Hour China (Towson Press, 2013). He has also coauthored, with Richard Dobbs and James Manyika, No Ordinary Disruption: The Four Global Forces Breaking All the Trends (PublicAffairs, May 2015).

Roderick has 20 years of Corporate Banking experience across geographies, including, Industry (Aviation, London 2009-2013), Head of Corporate Banking (South Africa, 2013-2017) and Head of Global Subsidiaries (China, 2018 - present).

Roderick holds a Master's Degree in Business Economics from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

Nelson is a veteran communicator with extensive experience ranging from media, corporates, and consultancy sides. He joined Edelman from EssilorLuxottica China where he headed Corporate Communications for this world’s largest vision health solution provider.

Having started his career as an award-winning journalist, Ren applied his storytelling methodology and truth pursuing approach through both agency and in-house works. He served as an agency executive at H&K Strategies and Shunya Communications Group. His PR career began at General Motors China, and later he served a communication leadership role for companies such as MetLife and DuPont China.

Nelson focuses on Edelman’s purpose-driven reputation offerings like corporate strategy, crisis & issue management, executive profiling, and employee engagement... He works closely with Edelman China clients in answer to their growing demand for trust-building with stakeholders in complicated communication and business environments. In addition, Nelson also manages Edelman Shanghai's office as Managing Director.

Nelson is a dedicated volunteer caring for WWII veterans and indigent kids with congenital heart disease (CHD).

He graduated from Journalism Colleague of Wuhan University and holds a Master of Arts degree from the International Communications Center at Macquarie University, Australia.

Ms. Shimer Diao has more than 15 years of experience in international affairs and impact building areas. She has served as the Senior Advisor at United Nations Global Compact and led the global program of Sustainable Infrastructure for the Belt and Road Initiative to Accelerate the SDGs Action Platform.

Prior to her role at United Nations Global Compact, Shimer was with the World Economic Forum, managing 3 foundations initiated by the World Economic Forum, Global Shapers Community, Young Global Leaders and the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship in Greater China and Northeast Asia region. Shimer started her career as a journalist and producer with Shanghai Media Group.

Shimer was selected as a Young Political Leader fellow by All China Youth Federation and American Young Political Leader Council in 2019. She also served as the Founding Curator of World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community in 2013.

Shimer holds a master’s degree in Law, International Relations from Peking University and a bachelor’s degree of Arts, Asian Studies from University of Sydney. She is also a candidate in Master of Philosophy in Peking University.

Over a decade ago, Jiakai devoted his professional life to civil society work in China. Jiakai served leadership positions at both leading domestic and international nonprofit organizations including China Red Cross Jet Li One Foundation, Beijing Youcheng Entrepreneur Poverty Alleviation Foundation, Arlington-based Rare Conservation, and World Wildlife Fund for Nature China Representative Office.

Before his nonprofit career, Jiakai worked for Credit Suisse’s Leveraged Finance Group within Investment Banking Division in New York. Jiakai received his undergraduate degree (BBA) from the University of Toronto and his master’s degree (MBA) from University of Michigan.
