Yingyi Ma is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of Asian/Asian American Studies. She is the Provost Faculty Fellow on internationalization at Syracuse University, where she leads and supports culturally responsive pedagogy and programs for international education and partnership. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from Johns Hopkins University in 2007.
Ma’s research addresses education and migration in the U.S. and China and she has published about thirty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, in addition to one monograph and one co-edited book.
Ma’s research on international education uses mixed methods including surveys and in-depth interviews. Her monograph, Ambitious and Anxious: How Chinese College Students Succeed and Struggle in American Higher Education, was published by Columbia University Press in February 2020. This book has won Best Book awards from multiple sections of the Comparative and International Education Association and the Bourdieu Best Book Award Honorable Mention from the American Sociological Association.
Ma’s research and teaching has garnered recognition and awards from Syracuse University and beyond. For 2014-2017, she was among the four inaugural recipients of O’Hanley Endowment for Faculty Excellence in Maxwell; For 2021-2022, she is the inaugural recipient of the Yang Ni and Xiaoqing Li Endowment Fund for U.S.-China/Asia Relations in Maxwell. In 2019, she was selected as a Public Intellectual Fellow at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and she has published many essays and been a frequent commentator for national and international media outlets.
Van Fleet’s Asia career spans ten years in Japan (1991- 2000) and eighteen in China (to present). He has extensive experience throughout the region in corporate strategy, business development, marketing and consultancy.
He currently serves as Director, Corporate Globalization, and adjunct faculty, Antai College of Economics & Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a campus where he’s been based since 2003. For nearly a decade through 2017, Van Fleet also served as Assistant Dean, USC Marshall School of Business, and Executive Director, USC-SJTU Global Executive MBA in Shanghai.
John is the Chair for Education Committee at AmCham Shanghai.
Alice Li-Arndt has headed schoolwide admissions at Shanghai American School (SAS) since 2013. As Director, she oversees enrollment, admissions and outreach at its two campuses. Prior to SAS Alice held management roles in not-for-profits and multinational organizations in the US, Taiwan, Malaysia, Germany and China.
Alice is the Vice-Chair for Education Committee at AmCham Shanghai.
Glenn Osaki is a global communications counselor with more than three decades of expertise in reputation and crisis management, consumer marketing, and digital/social influence. As Senior Advisor to the President for International Communications and Marketing, Osaki is focused on the University of Southern California’s global strategy, branding and thought leadership.
Prior to joining USC, Osaki served as Asia-Pacific President for MSL, the flagship strategic communications and engagement consultancy of Publicis Groupe.
Jing Luo graduated from the University of Vermont with a Master's Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2014. She worked at Miami University to support thousands of international students' transition and engagement from 2014 to 2018. She loves working with postsecondary students and finds her passion in the international education field. In her current role since 2019, she is very happy to help prospective students find their place and succeed at Michigan State University.
Ms. Lin CHEN, China Representative, serves Suffolk University with its China development in academic and business. She is the key recruitment officer for Suffolk’s undergraduate and graduate programs in China, working to enable bright and motivated young scholars to join the University. On top of that, she also develops academic partnership with local institutions and facilitates career development activities for graduating students and young alumni of the University for the Chinese market.
Lin has a rich background in study abroad and experience from both UK & US higher education systems across international student admission & enrollment. Prior to joining Suffolk, Lin worked for the University of Exeter (UK) and University of Minnesota (US) for student recruitment, agent management, partner development, social media development.
Lin earned her master degree in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Westminster and her bachelor degree in English from joint program between Nanjing University of Finance and Economics and University of Southampton.
Lillian is Market HR Lead for Mainland China and Hongkong for Google. She’s had extensive experience on working with the engineering and cross functional teams in Google in the past 9 years and expertise in organization culture, team effectiveness, and coaching for career development. She held an executive MBA degree from Hongkong University and before Google she was with Microsoft in different functions. In spare time, Lillian is a professional coach(ICF PCC) and has had extensive coaching experience across different industries.
As a university and career counselor, Maja works closely with high school students and their families to help them navigate post-secondary opportunities around the world. Her mission is to help to identify the right fit for each student. Maja also provides students with individualized support to take meaningful steps towards achieving their long-term personal, academic and career goals.
Maja was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia where she earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Psychology. She completed her second Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology and, most recently, a Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership in the United States. She has worked in international school settings for sixteen years - the last ten at SCIS.
Steve initially attained an undergraduate degree at Leeds University and then Masters in Political Philosophy from York University. After a number of years, he then trained as a specialist post-16 teacher at Manchester University going on to teach a range of subjects including History, Politics and Philosophy.
After a rewarding career as academic Head of Department, Steve joined the senior management of a prestigious college in the south of England, where he took on the role of Director of Student Development, successfully developing a series of unique initiatives to help students gain greater access to elite universities. Since then, he has worked at Wellington College International Shanghai as Director of Higher Education and Careers, where he developed the College's bespoke university guidance programme, the 'Higher Education Pathway'.
During his time in Shanghai, the College has managed to increase the number of successful applications to the world's elite universities – including the College's first Oxbridge and Ivy League offers. Steve has, unsurprisingly, developed a wealth of experience in supporting international university applications, especially those to highly competitive institutions and high-demand courses such as Medicine and Law. He has written numerous articles and has spoken at various events on themes related to university guidance. He has also been involved in developing a range of external conferences and programmes - even helping to organise international overseas interviews for Cambridge University. Steve is a firm believer in the benefits of meticulous preparation and now uses his experience as part of Wellington College China group’s Institute of Learning.

Ms Gong has over twenty years of experience in human resources consulting in China, and over eighteen years in the executive search business. She has been dedicated to the search of C level executives in the industrial, consumer and financial service sectors in China and Asia Pacific, and she led to develop “on-boarding process” for senior leaders in China.
Ms Gong is a Certified Coach (ACC) and a member of International Coach Federation (ICF). She is a strong advocate of D&I initiatives in China.
Erin Li held Master of Education degree in Comparative and International Education from the University of Hong Kong. She possesses 7 years of overseas college application and has helped hundred of students to be successfully admitted to prestigious institutions worldwide.
Wenting Wu, works as the Director of Employer Relations and USC China Career Services at USC Strategic and Global Initiatives. Wenting works very closely with USC Career Services offices, USC schools and programs at all level. She contributes to the mission and goals of managing employer relations and recruitment for Chinese students and alumni through outreach, recruiting programs, career fairs, technologies, and related programs. Before this, she has been leading USC Shanghai office for six years and the office was overseen by the office of the Vice President for Strategic and Global Initiatives, promote and facilitate the university’s global engagement by supporting recruitment, cultivating local relationships and facilitating academic activities.
In the recent years, Wenting has been leading AUCA which was founded in 2014, aims at developing a professional platform to connect educators or senior administrators working for overseas institutions in China. Wenting has successfully led 50 AUCA Career Fairs and Seminars in the past 6 years. She is one of the steering committee leaders of AUCA and the key leader of AUCA Career Committee.
Wenting earned her MPA from USC Price School of Public Policy and her bachelor degree in public administration from Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
Jodie Zhu is the Regional Director of the Fuqua School of Business for East Asia where she is dedicated to executing Fuqua’s “Embedded and Connected” global strategy through building a dynamic and fast growing ecosystem in the region. Her responsibilities include recruiting the best talent to Fuqua,
building an engaged alumni community, developing strong corporate relationships, enhancing Fuqua brand and creating educational residency experience for students. She has been in this role since 2013.
Jodie has extensive entrepreneurial experience in developing new projects, teams and businesses. Before joining Fuqua, she worked for a leading education organization with a focus on delivering overseas curricula to Chinese high-school students. In her role, she was responsible for launching and marketing new educational programs. Jodie also has experience working for a U.S. investment company and the business it acquired.
Jodie received an MBA degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She is passionate about global education and social responsibility.
