Stepping Stones, founded in 2006, is a non-profit organization registered in Shanghai, China. With the mission to improve the education and general welfare of disadvantaged children in China, Stepping Stones has been sending volunteers to local migrant schools and community centers to give free English lessons to migrant children for over 10 years. Over the years, Stepping Stones has also ventured into other projects serving disadvantaged children such as organizing volunteer tours to teach English in rural China, providing eye care services through its I Care Project, teaching computer lessons and life skills to migrant teenagers, and providing professional trainings to English teachers in migrant schools.
Shanghai Sunrise strongly believes that a good education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and can create a better future for young people and their families. Shanghai Sunrise promotes education in Shanghai by facilitating sponsorships for thousands of students who otherwise would not have a chance to attend school beyond the 9th grade. Since 1996, the organization has raised nearly 11,000 scholarships.
