AmCham's Entrepreneurship Committee invites you to join our upcoming event to discuss Trends in Corporate Venture Capital: What Entrepreneurs Need to Know on January 27th from 6-8:30pm. In cooperation with the Shanghai MBA Alumni Association, we have gathered a panel of experts to share insights to founders. Their practical advice will give you a glimpse into what the other side of the negotiating table looks for in their investments. This event aims to help you decide if you are ready to raise institutional funds and how to position your company to get to that stage.


Visiting Notes:

    The team led by Ms. Stacy Li at SSVB mainly serves technology innovative companies backed by top-tier venture capital firms in sectors such as Healthcare and Life Science, Data and Enterprise Software, Hardware/Semi-conductor, Life Science, Intelligent Manufacturing and Clean Tech. Based on interplay of debt and equity, Ms. Stacy Li and her team provide technology companies with unique, innovative and various financing services to meet with their requirements in terms of operation, investment, M&A, and privatization. Ms. Stacy Li joined Silicon Valley Bank in 2012 and took part in the preparation and launch of SPD Silicon Valley Bank, the first technology bank established by Silicon Valley Bank and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, as well as the local operation of the joint venture bank. As one of the founding members of SSVB, she introduced venture debt to the China market.

    Prior to SSVB, Ms. Stacy Li joined Deloitte in 2010, serving financial institutions as well as VC/PE firms for Audit & Assurance services. She participated in A/H IPO project for commercial banks, and audit services for multiple financial institutions.

    Ms. Stacy Li holds a Bachelor Degree from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Master Degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University.

    Samuel Ngai, Ph.D. is the Founder and Vice President of Danaher’s China Innovation Center, where he focuses on equity investment in early-stage life sciences and diagnostics companies across Greater China. Prior to Danaher, Dr. Ngai served as the Asia-Pacific Corporate Development and Integration Lead for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

    Prior to his assignments in Asia, Dr. Ngai was a M&A and venture capital (VC) professional in Silicon Valley, with experience spanning across US, Europe and Asia. Early in his career, Dr. Ngai worked as a strategy consultant in the US health care industry and as a lab researcher at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Outside of his corporate responsibilities, Dr. Ngai is an advisor and angel investor for early stage companies.

    Dr. Ngai received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and B.S. degree from University of California at Berkeley, all in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Ngai currently serves on MIT’s Graduate Alumni Council and was the President of the MIT Club of Shanghai from 2018 to 2020.

    Founded in 2010, Lang Sheng Investment Group Co., Ltd (LSI) is an A-B round focus fund targeting investments on healthcare and TMT. LSI now manages four funds with total AUM of RMB 1.3 billion and it has captured unicorns such as Ankon and CapitalBio, out of over 30 invested companies.

    Previously, as a Partner for Hisen Group, Yuan Gao's responsibilities included:

    - Manage PE-FoF business targeting local GP partners and build GP/LP ecosystems(China Renaissance, GSR capital, GGV, Fortune VC, WE capital, Baidu Capital, Sony, Hillhouse, Citic Capital etc);

    - Drive pre-IPO PE investments in growth segments: TMT/Healthcare/M&E etc. and Work with public listed companies to establish M&A fund and co-invest (Star TV, UBTech, Easy Home, Hero Entertainment, Xiaopeng Motors, Unisound, Qingting.fm, etc...)

    - Investment banking and Financial advisory in PE and Public companies and wealth management(Hywin Group, etc.)

    Previously, Yuan was the General Manager of Oriza Holdings (Suzhou Ventures Group) where he led portfolio management team to provide value-added services including business developments, operational assistance, capital markets supports and exit strategy; drove M&A activities in growth and pre-IPO stage companies in TMT, Biotech, Financial and other emerging sectors; developed and maintained C-level relationship with existing portfolio and the investment communities.
