The AmCham Shanghai China Business Climate Survey is one of the longest running surveys of U.S. business in China. This year, 338 companies shared their views and insights on a wide range of topics, including company performance, ESG drivers, headcount, investment, mobility, production locations, regulatory barriers, and the impact of a new US administration.


AmCham Shanghai, in conjunction with our report partner, PwC, cordially invites you to the release of the 2021 China Business Report on Thursday, Sept 23, from 11:45 AM – 1:50 PM at the PwC Innovation Center. This buffet lunch presentation is an opportunity to learn what your industry peers think about the operating environment in China. Panelists will offer their interpretation of the data, views into the trends observed in the past year, and projections for the years ahead.

    Partner at PwC China

    Jeff Yuan is a partner with PwC China and leads their transfer pricing tax services for Asia Pacific region. Jeff and his team provide cross-border tax advice to multinational companies (MNCs) in China, and overseas headquarters across major industries. Jeff helps MNCs design and implement sustainable cross-border transactions from China/APAC/Global tax perspectives.

    Jeff is a regular speaker on China and global tax issues and trends and a frequent contributor to professional publications on the relevant subjects. Jeff has a Master’s in Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota and Bachelor’s in Accounting from Winona State University. Jeff is a fellow member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
    Jeff has been providing China tax and business advice to his clients over last 20 years after he returned to his hometown, Shanghai, from New York where he worked with PwC as an international tax specialist.

    Colin Block is Managing Director for EVAPCO Asia Pacific, where he is responsible for driving business growth and has full P&L responsibility for China and the Asia Pacific region, including two manufacturing locations and three direct sales offices in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.

    EVAPCO is an industry leading heat transfer solutions provider in commercial HVAC, process cooling, industrial refrigeration, and thermal ice storage. Successful installations in Asia include the Beijing National Stadium, Shanghai International Financial Center, and Singapore Marina Bay Sands Resort.

    Colin joined EVAPCO in 2011 and served in various sales and marketing roles in the US and Australia before coming to China in 2015. Colin received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech) and holds a pilot's license.

    CEO and President of IKEA (China)

    Anna Pawlak-Kuliga is the CEO and President for IKEA China, Chief Sustainability Officer, and leads all Ingka companies in China mainland. Prior to joining IKEA, she worked as a lawyer and in the retail sector in the UK. After joining IKEA in 2008, she later moved to Poland as a Member of the Management Board. At that time, she was also a Supervisory Board Member for Distribution Service Southeast Europe and IKEA Centers Poland. She then was appointed Deputy CEO IKEA Retail Poland, with, among other things, responsibility for the company’s commercial agenda, multichannel implementation, and sustainability.

    In September 2016 Anna moved into the role of CEO IKEA Retail Poland, including oversight of the IKEA Property and windfarm companies. Outside of IKEA, Anna was a Client Advisory Board Member for Facebook Poland and is still a Program Board Member for UN Global Compact. In September 2018, Anna started her new role as CEO and President of IKEA China.

    Chief Executive at Ogilvy Group Asia

    Chris Reitermann is Chief Executive for the Ogilvy Group in Asia, with responsibilities for the strategic development and daily operations of the agency across 14 markets. He is a member of Ogilvy’s Worldwide Executive Leadership Board and is also a Global Client Leader for WPP, overseeing global key client relationships across WPP.

    In 2019, under Chris’s leadership, Ogilvy was named Campaign Creative and Digital Network of the Year in Asia. In 2017 he was named Asia Pacific Agency Head of the Year. Ogilvy was the first agency in China to win a Grand Prix in Cannes is one of the most awarded agencies in Asia.

    Over the last two decades Chris has held several senior management positions in various offices within the Ogilvy Group, running local offices, regional and worldwide clients and regional units such as Ogilvy &Mather Advertising.

    Chris is an active investor in the Chinese internet scene and sits on several boards. He is currently an independent Board Member of Babytree (1761.HK), a Supervisory Board member of windeln.de (WDL.DE) and an advisor to WGI (wgihq.org), an NGO focusing on international education.

    President at BorgWarner China

    Tom (Yuesheng) Tan is Vice President and President of BorgWarner China. In this role, he oversees all corporate functions in China and chairs the China Steering Committee consisting of all China business leadership.

    Tan most recently was the Vice President of Transmission Systems and Vice President of the Drivetrain Groups responsible for China concurrent with his President of BorgWarner China role. Earlier, he was the Managing Director of BorgWarner China and General Manager of Turbo and Emission Systems China. Tom joined BorgWarner in 1995 and has held several management positions prior to his current role.

    Before BorgWarner, Tom held management positions at United Technology (US) and Shanghai International Investment and Trust Corporation (China) in the areas of program management, business development, international trading and foreign direct investment in China.

    Tan holds an engineering diploma from Tongji University in Shanghai and Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas. Tan is a graduate of Advanced Management Program from Kellogg Business School as well as other executive programs from Oxford, INSEAD and Stanford.
