Commercialization is a necessity for any nation to be successful in the long term at exploring and securing its interests in the space domain. Throughout history, exploration and security matters have been led by government--either directly or through its hired agents--to organize, settle, create business opportunity, and reward its citizens. But removing governments from the equation may help create a stronger commercial model and better address the geopolitical and economic challenges that currently exist.
To create a non-political forum driven by non-governmental bodies, academics, and practitioners, The Caelus Foundation, the Secure World Foundation and the Chinese Society of Astronautics have partnered to organize "The Sino-US Space Commercialization Workshop: Redefining the Sino-U.S. Space Commercialization โ Perspective of Global Space Community," which will take place in Changsha, China in mid-April at the 2nd China Space Conference. Following this, on April 30, Jose Ocasio-Christian, CEO of Caelus Partners, and Founder of Orbital Gateway Consulting Blaine Curcio, will give a readout of the workshop, including:
- Provide a brief explanation of commercializing space and the global environment
- Discuss the US and China and the space commercialization environment
- Overview of workshop conducted in Changsha and some preliminary results
- Discuss the future of business opportunities between China and US for Space (what we think can work, what will not work and what we need to wait and see).
This event will be off the off the record. Header Image Credit: NASA
