Join AmCham Shanghai's Legal Committee on Friday, March 29th to meet with Secretary General Chengjie Wang from the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC). This round-table session will give attendees an exclusive opportunity to learn and discuss the benefits of CIETAC arbitration over court law suits when there are disputes.


The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) is one of the major permanent arbitration institutions in the world. Formerly known as the Foreign Trade Arbitration Commission, CIETAC was set up in April 1956 under the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in accordance with the Decision Concerning the Establishment of A Foreign Trade Arbitration Commission Within the China Council For the Promotion of International Trade adopted on May 6, 1954 at the 215th session of the Government Administration Council.


Since 2000, CIETAC is also known as the Arbitration Court of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC). CIETAC independently and impartially resolves economic and trade disputes, as well as investment disputes by means of arbitration. More information can be found here​.

    Mr. Wang Chengjie has nearly 30 years of experience in the field of dispute resolution. He worked for CIETAC from 1991 to 2009. He was once the division chief of the Filing Division, the Research Institute and the Business Development Division consecutively, and was the Deputy Secretary General of CIETAC from 2007 to 2009. In November 2009, Mr. Wang Chengjie was appointed the Deputy Director General of the Commercial Legal Service Center of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and concurrently the Secretary General of the Mediation Center of China Chamber of International Commerce. He acted as the Head of the Legal Affairs Department of CCPIT from March 2015 to July 2016.

    Mr. Wang is very experienced in dispute resolution. He is on the panel of arbitrators of many arbitration institutions including CIETAC, Arbitration Association of Chinese Taipei and others, and is the mediator of the Mediation Center of China Chamber of International Commerce, etc. He once worked with China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd., ACB International Ltd. (U.S) Beijing office and CMSCAMERON MCKENNA LLP (UK). He holds a B.A degree in international economic law from the Xiamen University and a L.L.M from the University of International Business and Economics.
