AmCham Shanghai's Food, Agriculture and Beverage Committee is pleased to host a special talk with Sam Su, former Chairman of Yum China, on Thursday, September 4, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the AmCham Shanghai Conference Center. The talk will feature Sam's second book, Doing It the Right Way 2: My Lifelong Pursuit and Practice (《正路2:我一生的追求和实践》).


In this session, Sam will share personal reflections and practical strategies that have shaped his management philosophy and helped transform China's F&B industry. As one of the most respected figures in China's restaurant industry, Sam offers timeless lessons on leadership, innovation and resilience. Li Xin, Founder/President of Sustenture and Chair of the Food, Agriculture and Beverage Committee, will moderate the discussion.

    Sam Su, a legendary business leader, was former Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yum Restaurant Group (parent company of brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, etc.) and Chairman and CEO of Yum China.

    Sam was born in Taipei and graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering of National Taiwan University, and later went to the United States to study, and successively obtained a master's degree in chemical engineering from Penn State University and an MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

    He started with KFC China in 1989 and ran Yum China for 26 years. He built the China team and a strong company, put forward the brand strategy of " Rooted in China, integrated into life", rebuilt the Pizza Hut brand, founded the Chinese fast-food brand East Dawning, and acquired China's leading hot pot chain, Little Lamb. When he retired in 2015, Yum China grew from four restaurants he took over to more than 7,000 restaurants, by far the largest restaurant group in China, and a significant piece of Yum's global business. He is revered as the "Godfather of China’s Fast Food Industry".

    苏敬轼(Sam Su)是著名企业家,百胜餐饮集团(肯德基、必胜客、塔可钟等品牌的母公司)全球董事局前副主席、百胜中国前主席兼CEO。祖籍山西,出生于中国台湾,毕业于台湾大学化工系,后赴美国读书,先后获得宾夕法尼亚州立大学化工硕士、宾夕法尼亚大学沃顿商学院 MBA学位。

    1989年接手肯德基中国,之后掌舵百胜中国事业部26年。他组建中国团队,壮大肯德基,提出了“立足中国、融入生活”的品牌总战略 ;重建必胜客,创立自有中式快餐品牌东方既白,收购当时中国第一火锅小肥羊……2015年退休时,百胜中国从他接手时的4家餐厅成长到7000多家,是中国最大的餐饮集团,在百胜全球总部拥有重要话语权。他被业界尊称为“中国快餐教父”。

    Previously, Li was China President of Sealed Air, a US Fortune 500 Company in food care and product packaging. Li held sales, marketing and management responsibilities in the US and Canada for 13 years prior to his China assignment.
