In February and March 2019 AmCham Shanghai interviewed data, cybersecurity and IT professionals at 17 foreign companies about how they manage the data they collect, how well they understand China's Cybersecurity Law (CSL) and how the law's associated regulations affect their business operations in China. These companies โ representing the healthcare, hospitality, IT, automotive, banking, insurance, legal, consumer, and manufacturing sectors โ said that while they recognized the importance of stronger data governance and protection of personal information, they were concerned by the onerous localization requirements, ambiguous language, vagueness in legal requirements, inconsistent implementation, and lack of input in drafting the CSL.
To help better understand the impact China's CSL is having on American companies in China, AmCham Shanghai is pleased to present a workshop on the effects of the law and how companies can create corporate compliance strategies around it. The session will begin Winston & Strawn Managing Partner Brinton Scott giving an update on implementation of the CSL, followed by a presentation by Control Risks Director Jim Fitzsimmons on how companies can create a corporate compliance and risk mitigation strategy for the CSL. Next, AmCham Shanghai will present its newest Viewpoint report Navigating China's Data Maze: How Regulations Affect U.S. Companies. Finally, a panel with LiveRamp APAC Data Ethics Officer and Public Policy Director Dr. JJ Pan,Novartis Associate Director of Information Security and Risk Management Tony Yao, and 3M Director of Business Transformation and Operations Erin Meagher will discuss what parts of the CSL most affect their companies and how they have built compliance strategies to mitigate risk.
This event is an AmCham Shanghai Government Policy Support (GPS) workshop.
