By the year 2050 there will be 10 billion people on the planet, 1.5 billion of which live in China. How will all these mouths be fed?

Join us on May 24th for our full day conference at the Four Seasons Hotel Puxi as we explore the future of food in China.

While Chinese young people play online games like "Happy Farms", the massive migration of young people to cities has left a quarter of traditional farmlands idle. Meanwhile, China’s economic growth and increasing consumer incomes has led to huge changes in food consumption. This includes demand for larger portion sizes, diversity and quality of food products, and the growth of restaurant and delivery dining.

Limited by finite and degrading agricultural resources, China’s ability to meet changing and increasing demands from domestic production alone is difficult. Production limitations, along with changes in the average diet away from rice and wheat to more meat and higher value foods like milk, dairy, and fruit mean new opportunities for imports and challenges for companies and brands targeting urban citizens.

AmCham Shanghai’s annual 2017 Food Industry Conference will focus on what the impact of new food production and product innovation, traceability and technology, food safety and fraud concerns, consumer marketing and new business models will mean for the future of China’s food, agricultural, and beverage industry, as well as the average Chinese consumer.
