AmCham Shanghai’s Legal Committee is pleased to invite you to a members only presentation on U.S. Regulatory Outlook in the Trump Era: What This Means for Companies in China and Elsewhere on Wednesday, June 14 from 10:00 – 11:30 at the AmCham Shanghai Conference Centre.

From North Korea, to Iran and Russia, the Trump Administration’s views on sanctions are slowly coming into focus. With recent enforcement actions by U.S. regulators for violations of sanctions (and the President’s continuing desire to use Presidential authorities to guide foreign policy), it is clear that this administration will rely on the sanctions tool perhaps more than prior administrations. With increased used will come increased complexity, risk, and enforcement.

We invite you to join Adam Smith, Partner at Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, who is also a former senior Obama Administration sanctions official – as he discusses what this fluid environment means for companies in China and elsewhere. From 2010-2015, Adam was the senior advisor to the Director of the U.S. Treasury Department’s sanctions office (OFAC), as well as advising the President more directly while on the National Security Council staff. He was a key architect of Iran, Russia, and North Korea sanctions measures and spoke to a full house at AmCham Shanghai last summer on these issues. Since then, he has been advising numerous companies throughout Asia (as well as foreign companies with Asia exposure) on the intricacies of sanctions, the expectations of sanctions regulators, and best practices in light of the new trajectory of the Administration’s policies.
