The demand for education and training services in modern China is exploding, but technology and government licensing are also constantly shifting positions from underneath the companies operating in this space.

AmCham Shanghai’s Entrepreneurship Committee would like to invite you to participate in an open discussion on the forces that are changing the education and training landscape and how business models are - or should be - changing on Tuesday, June 20 from 16:00-18:00 at the AmCham Shanghai Conference Room.

Participants will include startups, established companies and corporate staff who are responsible for employee training and development.

Each topic will be led by an experienced mentor who will facilitate the discussion and contribute their expertise.

Alex Wang, Managing Partner, China Impact Ventures
Alex is a serial entrepreneur who founded startups in China and the U.S., including a virtual world-based eLearning company focusing on helping young learners improve their communicative English capabilities. He has also served as the General Manager of EdX China, a leading massive open online course (MOOC) provider, founded by MIT and Harvard. Alex is also a mentor for ChinAccelerator, one of the leading startup incubators in Asia.

Rob Abbanat, International Learning Enterprises
Rob has spent over 6 years as the co-founder and CEO at ILE, an online school offering instructor-led programs for global business skills. ILE is headquartered in Shanghai and has grown into a global company, delivering live classes to online learners across Asia.

Digital Training (e-learning) - Platform vs. Content
Nayoung Mathiesen, STIA, Founder
Nayoung is a serial entrepreneur who has successfully launched startups in 3 different countries. Her current company, STIA (Skills Training Institute of Asia) is an online vocational training company offering both digital content and platform. She can share her experience and knowledge on the evolving e-learning industry in China and around the world, with a focus on merits of working on content vs. platform. .

Gertie has over 15 years consulting experience and has advised many multinational companies and domestic companies on global mobility policy for different type of assignment, remuneration approach as well as the mobility process and assignment management. She also helps companies and executives to develop tax efficient remuneration strategies, long term incentive program and employment/deployment structure. Her clients cover the auto, technology, banking, energy, logistics, manufacturing, consumer product, retail and telecommunication sectors.
