Strong coaching skills will increase your effectiveness as a manager as you learn to accelerate the development of others. In this course, you will gain insight into a coaching attitude, role and styles. In an authentic and transparent way, staying true to your own personal values. You will practice with several coaching models and techniques, to boost the effectiveness of your coaching conversations. In high impact practice sessions, you will work as coach, coachee and observer, resulting in a 360 degree perspective on coaching conversations. The feedback you receive from your colleagues and facilitator will help you develop your personal coaching style and discover its impact on others.

Session Outline

After this course participants, will:
  1. Understand their role as coach and how to use coaching skills to develop others
  2. Be able to apply one or more coaching models that enable them to focus on ambition and talents, promoting accountability on actions and delivering results
  3. Ask powerful questions and apply effective listening techniques that enable you to quickly identify underlying issues
  4. Structure the conversation using the GROW model
  5. Inspire others and encourage their personal development by adapting a coaching attitude of sincere interest and challenge

Pre-course preparation
  1. Prepare three meaningful topics that you would like to be coached on during the course
  2. In consultation with your manager, identify 2-3 development goals relating to your coaching skills.

Half day outline: 
The Coaching Attitude
  1. What is coaching and what is it not?
  2. Understanding values and ambition and their role in our lives
 
Listening
  1. Active listening
  2. The three different levels of listening
  3. Invite the coachee to share without pushing
 
Powerful questions
  1. Why we ask questions instead of telling
  2. Using three level listening skills to ask powerful questions
 
Structuring the conversation
  1. Creating an appealing vision for the future
     1.1 Using the GROW model
     1.2 Practice using the GROW model on fellow participants
 2. Speed coaching
     2.1 Learn how to effectively coach someone between 10 and 20 minutes.
     2.2 Practice speed coaching

Registration

  • All registrations shall be made online before the session. For full-day sessions, payment also shall be made before the session.
  • For half-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend free of charge with Training Credit*; AmCham Shanghai members without Training Credit are eligible to attend at “Member Rate”; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at "Employee Rate".
  • For full-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend at “Member Rate”; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at “Employee Rate”; Non-members are eligible to attend at “Non-Member Rate”.
  • Limited spaces are available and attendance will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Members please bring your membership card and non-members bring your business card upon check-in at the training session.
Walk-in and Cancellation Policy
  • This session requires confirmation of attendance in advance. If you attend this session without prior registration, you will be charged an RMB50 "walk-in" fee as member and RMB100 as employee.
  • Cancellation: If you need to cancel your registration for a half-day session, please notify us at (86 512) 6999 5295 or email Suzhou@amcham-shanghai.org no less than 24 hours in advance. If you need to cancel your registration for a full-day session, please notify us at least two weeks prior to the session for a full refund. Cancellation made within two weeks before the session will not be refundable.
  • To ensure that you have a seat, please come to the session on time. Open seats will be released to other guests 15 minutes after the session starts.
*What is Training Credit?
As an extra offer to all AmCham Shanghai members, each member will be granted with ONE Training Credit with their valid membership term. Members are able to use the Training Credit to register for the training session they are interested in, free of charge. The Training Credit can only be used by the member him/herself. The Training Credit is not transferrable or refundable for cash.
