Join us for an exclusive talk on Wednesday, October 23rd, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the AmCham Shanghai Conference Room. Our guest speaker, Kaiser Kuo, host and co-founder of the Sinica Podcast, will deliver a presentation titled "Can American Exceptionalism Accommodate Chinese Exceptionalism?"
During the session, Kaiser will analyze key differences between American exceptionalismโoften universalist and proselytizingโand Chinese exceptionalism, which tends to be more particularist and less missionary. He will introduce a new approach, termed "priority pluralism," as a potential middle ground for navigating these contrasting ideologies.
The talk will also explore how China's rise challenges core assumptions of American exceptionalism and what this might mean for U.S. foreign policy. Drawing from personal experiences, the speaker advocates for continued engagement and emphasizes the need for mutual understanding to ensure global stability.
