AmCham Shanghai Suzhou Center, co-organized with the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jiangsu China cordially invites you to join China's Auto Industry: The Race to a Sustainable Future & The Future of Intelligent Driving on Wednesday, April 10, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Sangha Retreat Auditorium.

The automotive industry has historically been a major driver of innovation and economic development. We are currently facing a shift in the center of gravity for the industry, as new trends and technologies have been commercialized at scale faster in China. Policymakers and industry leaders need to pay attention to this if we in the West intend to sustain leadership in mobility innovation, which has historically been a key driver of economic growth and job creation.

We are facing a secular and generational shift in the automotive and mobility sector. The rise of connected, electric, and autonomous cars requires that key stakeholders control critical technologies and supply chains. These stakeholders include national governments and industries that depend on this sector for their economic sustainability. Over the past decades, China has skillfully navigated its way to leadership in the commercialization of innovative technology solutions linked to the future of mobility.

  • China's Journey from Follower to Innovation "Super Scaler"

Bill was previously the regional head of Chrysler in Northeast Asia, where he successfully negotiated agreements with partners and obtained required approvals from the Chinese government to bring six new vehicle programs to the market in a three-year period, while concurrently establishing an infrastructure for local sourcing and sales distribution.
Mr. Russo has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University in New York, and a Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Mr. Russo is a highly sought-after opinion leader on the development of the China market and the automotive industry.
Bill is a contributing author to the book Selling to China: Stories of Success, Failure, and Constant Change (2023), where he describes how China has become the most commercially innovative place to do business in the world’s auto industry - and why those hoping to compete globally must continue to be in the market.
