Mike also “heads the Blank Rome LLP group dedicated to representing Chinese companies and individuals working in the USA.” Mike’s opinions about cross-border issues have been featured on National Public Radio and in the Wall Street Journal, London Financial Times’ FDI Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, China Daily, and the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong).
In 2018, Mike was appointed as an Arbitrator for the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Commission. In 2020, he was appointed as a Distinguished Professor at the Lawyers Institute of the East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai, one of China's top ten law schools.

Matthew J. Thomas has more than 25 years of experience in international trade, transport and maritime regulation, and government affairs, representing leading energy and commodities companies, shipowners, governments, insurers, investors, ports, shipyards, and marine terminal operators.
Matt works extensively in the areas of international trade sanctions, export controls, and related anti-money laundering measures. He has represented several global companies targeted for U.S. sanctions, reaching successful resolutions with the Departments of State and Treasury ("OFAC"). He has aided numerous clients around the world on sanctions and export control compliance planning, investigations, and transactional due diligence, with particular focus on the energy, commodities, maritime, transport, and services sectors.
Matt’s broad and diverse Washington career has given him unique skills in legal and regulatory strategy and project management, including the design and execution of hybrid legal and government relations efforts to shape policy and achieve client objectives.

Danielle has been a corporate attorney in Shanghai for more than 19-years. Prior to joining HFW in 2021, Danielle served as Senior Legal Director APAC for Cooper Standard Automotive where she ran legal for all operations in China, India, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. In addition to M&A, Danielle also established and ran the company's compliance program for Asia and was responsible for coordinating all such work with US headquarters in Michigan.
Danielle began her legal career as an attorney in a large Chinese law firm and during her time in private practice obtained a license to practice law in the United States. She has worked for a broad range of clients in multiple sectors and from all over the world.
