Qidong, located on the western coast of the Pacific Ocean, sits on the northern shore of the Yangtze River estuary, 50 km north of Shanghai's Pudong district. It has an advanced transportation system, wonderful landscape and abundant industry. In 2019, Qidong's GDP reached 115.8 billion yuan, ranking 13th among the top 100 cities for scientific and technological innovation in China.The Economic Development Zone was established in 1992 and is one of the first provincial-level development zones in Jiangsu province. It is also the development zone closest to the Shanghai Pudong Free Trade Zone, focusing on the four major industries of the marine engineering industry, semiconductor equipment and materials industry, new energy industry and life and health industry.

As close neighbors, Qidong and Shanghai face each other across the Yangtze River. Qidong is at the "opening" of multiple strategic opportunities such as the Belt and Road Initiative, Yangtze River Economic Belt and Yangtze River Delta Integration. With the construction of a high-speed railway along the north Yangtze River, Nantong New Airport and Great Tongzhou Bay, Qidong has unlimited development opportunities.
