We often believe that super effective leaders who use stories to influence are born that way. We listen with wonder and delight to Steve Jobs, or wonder just how Barack Obama answers questions spontaneously and adds little stories here and there to influence the audience.


The truth is, they weren't born this way; they used only a few simple storytelling techniques to influence. That's why you must join us for a full-day workshop as Jeff Tan of REV Training and Coaching shares their secrets of leadership with storytelling!

Session Outline

Three key areas are covered to make you an even more influential leader using stories:


1. The Knowledge

• Discover what's a useful story in a business context, and what the brain must hear for influence to take place.

• Understand which influence situations need a story and which don't.

 

2. The Stories to Use

• How to build a very useful collection of stories to use at the right time. Stories don't magically pop up in your head when you need it, so we'll build your own collection during the workshop. Building a collection before you need it is crucial, yet it's always

ignored!

 

3. The Tools (and we'll practice this throughout the day)

• How to rapidly find a useful story to influence from your collection of stories.

• How to handle any objection gently using stories to influence.

• How to tell your story to influence so that you influence others unconsciously using simple public speaking "tricks" all professional speakers use.

Who should attend?

Warning! If you're coming to just passively listen, this workshop is not for you! But if you want to leave the workshop with a collection of useful stories to use, and the ability to immediately use it, then you must attend!

    I’m Jeff from sunny Singapore and I’ve called Shanghai home for the last 12 years. I have a very deep interest in all things related to communications, leadership, influence, and how the brain works.
    What’s really interesting is that I learned how NOT to use stories to influence at my previous job, which lasted 26 years as a helicopter pilot with the Singapore Air Force. I was taught (and forced) to influence using only facts, logic and rational arguments. Sound familiar?
    But that was a very long time ago, and with scientific proof from Neuroscience, we all know that influence needs a logical framework, PLUS a huge and large amount of emotional and intuitive “sell” before it works.
    And that’s where storytelling comes in very powerfully.
    In my spare time, when I’m not thinking about the meaning of life, I write books and create video learning products. My next book on influence comes out in a few months time.

Registration

  • All registrations shall be made online before the session. For full-day sessions, payment also shall be made before the session.
  • For half-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend free of charge with Training Credit*; AmCham Shanghai members without Training Credit are eligible to attend at “Member Rate”; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at "Employee Rate".
  • For full-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend at “Member Rate”; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at “Employee Rate”; Non-members are eligible to attend at “Non-Member Rate”.
  • Limited spaces are available and attendance will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Members please bring your membership card and non-members bring your business card upon check-in at the training session.
Walk-in and Cancellation Policy
  • This session requires confirmation of attendance in advance. If you attend this session without prior registration, you will be charged an RMB50 "walk-in" fee as member and RMB100 as employee.
  • Cancellation: If you need to cancel your registration for a half-day session, please notify Ivette Corominas at (86 21) 6279 7119 ext. 5671 or email ivette.corominas@amcham-shanghai.org no less than 24 hours in advance. If you need to cancel your registration for a full-day session, please notify Ivette Corominas at least two weeks prior to the session for a full refund. Cancellation made within two weeks before the session will not be refundable.
  • To ensure that you have a seat, please come to the session on time. Open seats will be released to other guests 15 minutes after the session starts.
