The Marketing & Media Committee serves up a sizzling summer topic – how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be applied to improve marketing performance – with 3 of the leading AI experts in the region.


To many marketers, AI is a high growth area with even higher expectations. AI systems are already undeniably improving the way marketers work in areas such as market and demand forecasting, social network analysis and consumer insight generation, process and decision-making automation and customer journey support. Yet, AI remains a confusing topic for those not well versed in the technology.


One thing is clear - with China throwing its full weight behind AI development, we are just beginning to scratch the surface of its marketing potential in China. Understanding its benefits and strong potential applications, therefore, is crucial to remaining competitive in this fast-moving market.


In this session, we will host three presentations from industry leading companies who are uniquely positioned to demystify AI and provide insight into the potential of this powerful technology: SAP, APEX Technologies and RIKAI Labs. RIKAI Labs' team will begin with the basics of AI and its various off-shoots (neural networks, machine learning, deep learning, etc.), and then illustrate how AI-enabled chatbots are improving the customer experience of many leading brands in China. Tiger will then introduce us to the marketing applications of deep learning, and how this improved analytics capability is helping to find new customers for leading auto, fashion and travel brands. Finally, Shailendra will showcase a number of large-scale applications and case studies where SAP's Leonardo AI has helped leading brands improve their marketing performance – from sporting events and concerts to retail management.


Paul Lin, the Chair of the Marketing Committee, will host this showcase with DC, Edaan, Tiger, and Shailendra.

    Originally from the US, Edaan has a background in entrepreneurship and education. He began his career in education as an English teacher and text book author in the US and Asia. In 2008, he co-founded the real estate company LMD Management which he sold in 2014.

    After this he co-founded RIKAI Labs. RIKAI Labs engages and educates users with chatbots powered by a blend of Artificial Intelligence and live people via messaging platforms like WeChat. He leads operations and content development for RIKAI's flagship Teacherbot chatbot which teaches China's 400M English language learners with a blend of live teachers and chatbots.

    He is responsible for driving innovative ideas and discussions with SAPs clients in the region. With an experience of over 23 years working with Corporates, Software Vendors and Consulting companies to deliver over One Billion Dollars through advanced analytics, Shailendra joined SAP in July 2017. He has established and lead several data science businesses to generate revenue and drive incremental growth by creating multiple cognitive solutions across a variety of sectors, including: High Tech, Financial Services, Retail and Public Sector.

    He has published multiple articles about analytics and cognitive solutions; and recently published an Amazon bestseller “Making Money out of Data” which showcases five business stories from various industries on how successful companies make millions of dollars in incremental value using analytics. Prior to joining SAP, Shailendra held senior executive level positions at IBM, Accenture, Woolworths and Coles.
