As Senior Vice President of Content and Marketing for NBA China, Land is responsible for all of the league’s content and marketing efforts in Greater China. Additionally, he is in charge of the execution of all NBA events, including the annual China Games, and the basketball development of China’s elite basketball players, overseeing three NBA Academies in Zhejiang, Shandong and Xinjiang.
As Head of Content, Land leads all original content development in Greater China with the goal of providing fans and potential fans high quality game presentations, compelling content, innovation and excellence via all media distribution platforms. Under Land’s leadership since January 2013, NBA China has launched captivating new programming, including NBA PrimeTime on CCTV5, NBA Mitan on Tencent, and Centers of the Universe, the story of the relationship between Yao Ming and Shaquille O’Neal, which amassed record viewership in China, as well as in the U.S. and throughout Asia. Additionally, his Content team creates short video content on a daily basis for various social and digital platforms, creating revenue opportunities for both the NBA and its partners, while building the NBA brand.
As Head of Marketing, Land is focused on growing the NBA’s fan base by attracting casual and curious fans through creative approaches to brand awareness around NBA games, its players, events, and through the league’s social responsibility initiatives. One of the most successful campaigns under Land’s watch has been the league’s Chinese New Year Celebration, featuring a lineup of 94 games involving all 30 teams and broadcast across a variety of NBA media platforms, and the creation of the highly popular Chinese New Year promo. The 2018 series of spots were entitled ‘Fireworks’ featuring Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving and Kawhi Leonard. Similarly, Land is responsible for player marketing in China, focusing on bringing NBA players and legends to market for various league and partner activations.
Prior to his relocation to China in 2013, Land, was Senior Vice President of Business and Production Operations for the NBA, acting as the chief of staff of the league’s Production, Programming and Broadcasting division in Secaucus, New Jersey. His responsibilities included the acquisition, archiving, editing and distribution of content, the digitization of the league’s historical video library, and overseeing the department’s fiscal efforts with a primary responsibility to manage costs.
