AmCham Shanghai's Automotive Committee invites you to attend our 2018 kick-off event on Wednesday, March 14 from 08:00 - 12:30pm at the Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel. We'll take a close look at China's automotive industry with a special focus on the Ecosystems of Electric Vehicles.

This event will be an opportunity to better understand the trends, significant challenges and opportunities in China's Electric Vehicle (EV) market. Topics of discussion will include: Chinese EV car's global competitiveness; government regulatory policies; development plans and future directions; and the latest infrastructures and insights into EV car technologies including powertrain, battery productions, life cycles and how these will speed up industry growth.

    Lyn Wang is teh Policy Researcher, Energy-saving Research Department at Automotive Data Center, CATARC

    Lyu's dedicated to the policy study of fuel efficient and new energy vehicles industry has directly supported policy-making for state ministries.

    In recent years, Lyu, as a primary writer, had engaged in the policy draft of China Passenger Cars Corporate Average Fuel Consumption and New Energy Vehicles Credit Regulation, Annual Vehicle and Vessel Tax for Fuel Efficient and New Energy Vehicles, and more. In addition, he is one of the co-authors of Energy-saving and NEV Industry Development Report.

    Sun Zhengyu has been actively involved in the policy making of energy & transportation for Shanghai Municipal Development & Reform Commission. He earned his Master's Degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering from Iowa State University in 2008, and later join the Shanghai Academy of Development & Reform (SADR) in 2010.

    Sun is one of the main contributors to the Shanghai Transportation Development White Paper published in 2012. He was the main author of two rounds of Shanghai New Energy Vehicles Promotion Policy Evaluation in 2015 and 2017.

    Dr. Chen is VP of R&D of Wanxian A123 Systems Asia Co. Ltd. He joint A123 MI Office in 2009 as the Manager of Engineering and Director of Engineering responsible for Advanced Engineering, Engineering Simulation & Algorithm Development. In the past nine years, Dr. Chen has led or involved tens of lithium-ion propulsion battery system development programs for OEMs around the world. The 48V battery, which Dr. Chen was involved as the main developer, has been widely selected by global OEMs in their 48V systems.

    Dr. Chen graduated from University of Stuttgart in Germany in 1999 with a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering.

    Powertrain Director of Ford Asia Pacific

    Dr. Mazen Hammoud is Ford's Powertrain Director, Asia Pacific. He is responsible for the engineering and implementation of engines, transmissions, driveline, cooling, intake, exhaust, fuel systems, electrification, controls and calibration in China, India, Australia, and the rest of the Asia Pacific region. In addition to delivering the Powertrain systems, customer attributes, and regulatory compliance, Mazen is charged with developing the Powertrain Engineering footprint and workforce in two regional engineering centers and growing the local engineering excellence.

    Prior to this appointment, he was Ford's Electrified Powertrain Systems Chief Engineer in charge of system architecture, component sizing, controls, and calibration for all HEV, PHEV and BEV programs globally to deliver cost-effective best-in-class fuel economy and a superior driving experience. He oversaw Ford’s Electrification market share growing more than threefold to number two of the segment in North America, while winning multiple awards.

    Since joining Ford in 1998, Dr. Hammoud held several leadership positions in Powertrain Controls and Calibration. He delivered multiple award winning programs for drivability and fuel economy using EcoBoost technology. In Powertrain electronics, he managed to reduce cost and complexity while improving quality by applying Ford’s Commodity Business Plan and Supplier Aligned Business Framework strategies.

    Mazen’s career, including eight years at GM, is focused on sustainability and the environment by reducing emissions and improving fuel economy of modern Powertrains. He is responsible for numerous innovations published in technical papers and international patents. Mazen frequently participates in panel discussions, represents Ford in media events, and delivers industry speeches.

    He holds a Bachelor (WSU), Master (U of M) and Ph.D. (U of M) degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Organizational Behavior from the University of Michigan. A SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Fellow, he serves on several professional and academic boards and is currently Chairman of the SAE Foundation Board of Trustees.

    She is responsible for engaging international research communities and business partners to put innovative ideas into action. Her current work is focused on circular economy, including the implementation of green supply chain management and product end-of-life management. Prior to this appointment, she was a researcher in the End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Research Centre, leading the projects of automotive parts remanufacturing and catalysts recovery.

    She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Sustainable Engineering from Loughborough University in the UK, focusing on robotic disassembly.

    Meng Ye is the Product Strategy Director of Volvo APAC, in charge of the areas including Product Planning, Electrification and Connectivity Strategy, Partnership & Alliance, and Market Intelligence for Volvo APAC with the focus on China.

    Meng holds a Bachelor degree from Tsinghua University and a PhD degree with specialization on battery from Stanford University. Before joining Volvo, Meng had worked in McKinsey & Company as an Engagement Manager and had led many projects in automotive sector, typically related to the topic of electrification, as well as other business area.

    Martin Murray

    PATAC at Deputy Director, Electrification Engineering

    Martin has more than 30 years of experience in automotive propulsion system development and manufacturing with General Motors, including hybrid, electric, diesel, and gasoline propulsion systems. Martin is based at the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai leading electrification engineering at the engineering joint venture between SAIC and GM. Prior to this assignment, Martin lead battery pack engineering for GM in Warren, Michigan. He has spent 13 years in Asia developing GM’s electrification capabilities in China, Korea, and Japan, and building technical partnerships with key electrification suppliers. In 2011, he commissioned the battery laboratory at General Motors China Technical Center in Shanghai. Martin holds a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla and an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University.
