Join us for a discussion with Christopher Chan, President of AIA Shanghai, Stephan Yas, Managing Director/Design Director DWP, and Louie Cheng, Founder of PureLiving, on environmentally positive projects that they have worked on.

About the Environmental Committee:
AmCham Shanghai’s Environmental Committee identifies and addresses key issues relating to environmental sustainability in China through information and best practices sharing, networking and outreach efforts. In addition, it serves as a communications channel on environmental concerns for the AmCham Shanghai membership as well as a platform for the community to engage and promote sustainable ideas.

AmCham Shanghai’s Real Estate & Construction Committee provides a forum for sharing current market information, discussing relevant industry policy, educating and appraising the investment environment conditions for the benefit of foreign tenants, investors and industry professionals in greater Shanghai and Suzhou.

    Christopher Chan leads design and co-manages Moore Ruble Yudell's Shanghai office- a full design studio and an extension of the Santa Monica office that was established in 2012. Chan has been Design Director for notable projects that included a World Trade Center development with its 358-meter high landmark tower in Nanjing, a 200-acre technology research master plan in Songjiang District, a major corporate headquarters campus in the Yangpu District, and the execution phases of the Shanghai Tower. In 2017, Chan became the President of AIA Shanghai. He is also a Chapter co-founder and a standing board of director.

    Stephen Yas is an accomplished architect with more than 40 years in the industry, and has extensive
    International experience on large complex architecture and urban design projects. His body of work includes prestigious mixed-use developments, commercial, hospitality, high-rise and corporate headquarters; he has also been involved in many national and international award-winning projects, receiving recognition from the American Institute of Architects, HUD, Oxford University and Ohio University. He studied at Harvard Graduate School of Design, Oxford Brooks University and Ohio University. He holds a Masters in Urban Design and Bachelor of Architecture. He has been working in China since 2004. He was the Design Principal with
    MulvannyG2 on the Hangzhou EFC mixed-use project (828,000m2) for which the construction is
    nearly completed in the new CBD for West Hangzhou.

    Louie Cheng is President and founder of PureLiving, an indoor environmental health and safety consulting firm with offices in 6 cities across China and India, which help residential and commercial clients navigate the challenges of air and water quality, mold, asbestos and lead exposure issues. Louie has more than 20 years of scientific consulting experience as a chemical and biological warfare engineer with the US Army, trained with the US CDC, and was formerly the Asia Strategy Director for Thomson Reuters’ Scientific Division. He is the chapter director of the China Chapter of the Indoor Air Quality Association and has personally led over 1700 indoor environmental and green building projects, including LEED/WELL/RESET certifications for the headquarters of JLL, Glumac, and MMoser and the WPP Building, Citibank HK and Parkview Green. He holds a BA from Harvard and an MBA from Dartmouth Business School.

    Michael has more than twenty years’ experience managing organizations. He began his career as a lawyer, working for two US Federal Courts. He served eight years as a Federal Prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice (receiving an Outstanding Attorney Award in 1993 and 1996), and as Minister of Justice and Special Prosecutor for the Republic of Palau. In early 2005, Michael moved to China to serve as Asia Pacific CEO for Day Light Inc., USA, and has subsequently worked in businesses in various industries including environment, education, human resources, fashion, retail, health/beauty and media. He is the founder of US Green Solutions and serves as President of JuQi Wenhua Media. He also runs various beauty competitions. Michael is a professional trainer and business coach who has serviced International companies including Baxter, Bayer, Shanghai GM, Johnson Controls, SAP and others. Michael serves as Chairman of the Shanghai American Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee, sits on the WildAid International Advisory Board, and runs the Chicago China Club in Shanghai. He is also an actor and model who has written and produced short films and appeared in movies, television shows, commercials and promotional videos.

    Senior Director, Head of China Strategy Research at Cushman & Wakefield

    Shaun Brodie is the Senior Director, Head of Occupier Research, Greater China at Cushman & Wakefield. With 16 years of experience in China, Shaun Brodie has a deep understanding of the country and its property market. In his role as Head of Occupier Research for the Greater China region, Shaun works closely with Cushman & Wakefield's Occupier Services Group in China and its Global Occupier Services Group to produce timely whitepapers for the company's occupier clients. Recent topics covered include, Blockchain and its impact on commercial property, lease accounting changes and how ready occupiers in China are for the impending changes and Brexit’s effect on China's Grade A office market.

    In addition, Shaun writes property market related articles for trade publications, magazines and newspapers and is often a speaker at property seminars and conferences. He is the current Co-Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce’s Real Estate and Construction Committee in Shanghai.
