How often has your boss or someone else surprised you at a meeting by asking for your opinion?

How did you answer? Confidently and to the point? Or did you get lost and embarrassed? Or
worst of all, did your mind go blank?

What if you could confidently and calmly organise and present your thoughts fast? Well, with this one-day “Think On Your Feet” workshop led by Jeff Tan, you can!

“Be a voice not an echo”
Albert Einstein

Session Outline

Part 1: Discover your thinking style under pressure.
  • Understand why your mind shuts down or speeds up under pressure, and what you can do with your natural behavior so that critical and creative thinking flows smoothly and calmly when you need it the most.

Part 2: The tools to Think On Your Feet
  • Tool 1: How to use simple and easy frameworks to organize and instantly communicate your thoughts. Two frameworks are shared, i.e., (1) PREP and 2) What-Why-How; these two will cover almost any situation when you must think on your feet.
  • Tool 2: How to ask to clarify and listen to understand. Know how to use only four standard questions to clarify any question asked and get to the root of the question. After asking your question, know what to listen out for, and how to do it.

Part 3: Simple public speaking tools to effectively communicate your Think On Your Feet thoughts.
  • Tool 1: How to use your voice tone, pitch and speaking speed to highlight any point you want to make. You can go louder, softer, faster or slower or a combination of all four.
  • Tool 2: How to use body language and facial gestures to emphasize your points.
  • Tool 3: How to build a small collection of stories to use in a Think On Your Feet situation.
Who should attend?
Anyone in the workplace, from junior managers to senior leaders who struggle to think on their feet to come up with useful and quick answers in a one-on-one situation, or in a meeting with a large audience.

Jeff spent the first 26 years of his working life as a Singapore Air Force pilot where he had to constantly think on his feet and answer to many bosses and senior foreign government officials. Since coming to Shanghai 11 years ago to start his own business, he again had to always think on his feet when meeting clients, many of whom just wanted to challenge him for the heck of it! Simply put, he’s had a lifetime of practice thinking on his feet, and wants to share with you the best tips and tools.
