The October edition of the Sustainability Monthly Webinar Series "Circular Economy and Design" will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, 9:00 am – 10:30 am via Zoom webinar.
A circular economy is one where it is restorative or regenerative. Instead of buy, use, throw, the idea is that nothing or little is 'thrown', rather it is reused, or regenerated, thus reducing waste as well as the use of our resources.
While many organizations 'do their bit' in terms of recycling or sourcing locally, we are far from a world where our economy is truly circular. Many experts believe that businesses need a new business model – what has been lacking is a truly global vision of what a circular economy really is and a model that any organization can adopt.
Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy means asking organizations to change the principles on which they have been operating, leaving no excuse for organizations not shifting away from the unsustainable linear model of production and consumption.
Research has shown that more than 80% of consumers in Asia-Pacific are willing to spend a premium on sustainable products, they tend to buy from brands that are transparent. But beyond consumer demands, will the company start to consider how the design of our products with a circular approach represents untapped economic opportunities, in addition to being the right thing to do for the environment?
