How does one incorporate traditional Chinese culture into the creative craftsmanship of modern Western art? AmCham's Art & Culture Committee invites you to an art talk by conceptual designer Danful Yang on July 29 from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm at Pearl Lam Galleries. Yang will share her insights and perspective from her work as a versatile and visually dynamic artist.
Yang will discuss her exhibition "Packing Me Softly," which uses unconventional boxes as stools, and why she chose to focus on the packaging people use rather than the contents inside. She will also discuss her porcelain craftworks that include nods to both traditional Chinese craftsmanship and philosophy as well as Chinese family dynamics.
Born in Shanghai in 1980, Yang graduated from East China University of Science and Technology and went on to study at Kingston University. Danful will talk about her journey of how she became an artist and how she used her cross-cultural experiences as inspiration for her artwork.
The event will be held at Pearl Lam Galleries located near the Bund. Founded in 2005, Pearl Lam Galleries presents museum-quality exhibitions that stimulate international dialogue and cross-cultural exchange between the East and West. The current exhibition at the gallery is Metamorphoses.
