Before joining Eurasia Group, Mr. Meale spent over 30 years in the US Foreign Service, including 13 years in Greater China. His most recent overseas role was deputy chief of mission in Beijing, where he managed operations for the US embassy and four consulates.

    Practice Head, China at Eurasia Group

    David Meale leads Eurasia Group's China practice, advising global clients on strategic, economic, and political developments related to China.

    Before joining Eurasia Group, David spent over thirty years in the US Foreign Service, including thirteen years in Greater China. His most recent overseas role was deputy chief of mission in Beijing, where he managed operations for the US embassy and four consulates. David also served in deputy assistant secretary roles in trade and sanctions at the US Department of State, and he held senior posts in China, Bangladesh, and Ukraine. Prior to his diplomatic career, Meale worked in corporate finance for Sprint Telecommunications' international division.

    David holds a master's degree in national resource strategy from the National Defense University, a master's in business administration from Tulane University, and a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Delaware. He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Lisa, and on weekends you are likely to find him with one of his adult sons wandering nearby hiking trails with Penelope, his adopted street dog from Beijing.
