AmCham Shanghai's Art & Culture Committee invites you to a guided tour of the Jewish Refugees Museum, formerly a Jewish ghetto in Hongkou District, on Friday, July 16 from 3:30 – 5 pm.
The Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum includes Ohel Moshe Synagogue, an exhibition hall and a courtyard. First established in 2007, the museum narrates the story of how over 20,000 Jewish refugees fled Nazi-occupied areas in Europe in the 1930s and 40s and settled in Shanghai. During World War II, Shanghai was one of the very few places in the world that provided shelter to Jewish refugees.
In December 2020, the museum completed its renovation project and reopened to the public. Guests can expect to see these exciting new additions during our visit. This guided tour is perfect for those interested in learning about how Jewish refugees and their Chinese neighbors helped each other overcome years of adversity. Through the museum's advanced interactive multimedia, you can expect to gain an intimate understanding of a rich segment in Shanghai's history.
