Yue Su, Principal Economist of Access China/Asia at The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) will assess the implications of Trump's economic strategies on the US economy, and global trade relations, and what lies ahead for businesses navigating these evolving challenges. Roger Chen, Global Trade Advisory Tax Partner at Deloitte China will provide a deep dive into the US 301 investigation about its background, the likely impact of tariffs on Chinese exporters to the US market, and actionable strategies to mitigate risks.

    Principal Economist, Access China/Asia at The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)

    Yue Su is the Principal Economist of Country Analysis China/Asia at The Economist Intelligence Unit. She is a frequent guest in national and international media, providing critical insight into China’s economic trends and fast-changing policy environment.
    Yue leads EIU’s China research team, which provides economic and political coverage of China/Asian economies and has a strong client-facing element, both in terms of interacting with global clients looking at China and Chinese clients looking for a global perspective.

    Yue joined the EIU in 2013. She has deep knowledge of China’s economic data and policy environment and has played an instrumental role in shaping EIU's forecasts and analysis for China and Vietnam. She also drives, for example, our successful calls on China’s GDP growth in the COVID-19 era and leads EIU's coverage interpreting policies such as China’s Five Year Plan, Third Plenum Session, etc. Yue has focused her research on subjects including regional and industrial economics, infrastructure and Chinese ODI/Belt and Road Initiative, Vietnam's economy and politics.

    Yue holds a doctorate in political economy, with research centered on the aid effectiveness of multilateral development banks. She has served as an advisor on several commissioned studies in the infrastructure sector, including public-private partnerships in China and across Asia. Yue is also a mentor at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong.

    Roger is a Tax Partner based in the Deloitte Shanghai office.
    Roger worked in customs for more than 15 years for different departments, including, but not limited to, goods inspections, logistics supervision, clearance, comprehensive coordination, customs audit, etc. He is experienced in customs classification, valuation, origin, process trade relief, duty exemption, audit, enterprise management, etc.

    When working in customs, Roger was involved in a lot of China customs reforms, such as classified clearance reform, paperless clearance reform, voluntary disclosure pilot program, etc. He also worked for internal advising for complicated clearance issues with extensive knowledge of customs regulation and coordination.

    After joining Deloitte in 2015, Roger has assisted many multinational companies with settling customs clearance issues, AEO applications, trade compliance reviews, self-disclosure, customs audits/ASB defense, etc.

    Due to multiple impacts from geo-political disputes, COVID-19, and other special incidents, Roger is now focusing on supply chain optimization for large clients in consumer, automobile, and life science industries, by leveraging the policy of free trade agreement, free trade zone, duty exemption, etc., to improve the efficiency significantly and effective of our clients.
    Roger is a China CPA.
