Education is accounting for an increasing proportion of China's household consumption expenditure. According to Deloitte's annual report on China's education development, the Chinese education market will reach 2.68 trillion yuan in 2018, and the overall scale of private education will reach 3.36 trillion yuan by 2020.
AmCham Shanghai's Education Committee is pleased to invite you to a session on Nov 7th, 3-5pm to discuss the latest market trends in the education sector. Experts from Deloitte will share and elaborate their key findings, some of them including:
- China's education industry has been highly valued for its significance by policies, consumers and capital.
- International schools are still in the period of expansion.
- The education industry is entering an intelligent era with high mobility, optimized products, applications of AI/big data technology, as well as the integration of online and offline modes.
Apart from a market overview, the event will also update our community about the regulatory environment, with a focus on a recent draft titled Implementing Regulations of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Promotion of Private Education. This draft proposes several amendments to the previous draft, including:
- Restrictions on VIE arrangement and foreign investment in compulsory education.
- Education groups cannot control non-profit private schools.
- Public schools require approval to sponsor or participate in private schools.
- Affiliated transactions are supervised by the government.
The session will provide a legal explanation of the draft and discuss the potential impact on the education sector and the challenges faced by foreign investors in particular.
