December 9th marks the 18th year of the International Anti-Corruption Day, established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness and combat corruption globally. For 2021, the theme is Your Right, Your Role: Say No to Corruption. To mark the significance of this day, on Tuesday, December 21st at 8:30-10:00, the AmCham Shanghai Ethics & Compliance Committee will invite key experts from various fields to discuss the importance of compliance initiatives in combating corruption in companies working between US, China, and globally.

    Joel A. Gallo has spent nearly 30 years in global banking/capital markets, asset management and technology. He is the Chief Financial Officer of ETAO International Group – a $3 billion USD healthcare firm that will do an IPO in the U.S. early next year. He is an Adjunct Professor at New York University – Shanghai where he teaches Masters courses in accounting, finance and international business. He is also on the Board of Directors of Hywin Wealth Management, China’s third largest wealth management firm, which is listed on Nasdaq. He is also a columnist at Caixin Global.

    Joel was previously the Head of Investment Operations at Deutsche Bank Asset Management and a Director in the Advisory practice at PwC. He was a senior executive at Deloitte, Dell EMC and E&Y, where he advised more than 100 global financial firms on strategic projects.

    Joel is a frequent speaker at conferences and universities and has published and been quoted extensively in Caixin, Bloomberg Businessweek, Ignites Asia (Financial Times), China-US Focus, South China Morning Post and other publications on global finance/economics, U.S./China relations and technology.

With 27 years of China-related experience and over 15 years working in Shanghai, Tim holds expertise in multi-industry compliance operations (including policy management, monitoring, training, whistleblower hotline, integrity due diligence, security issues, eDiscovery, forensic investigations & executive reporting). He is the Chairman of the AmCham Shanghai Ethics & Compliance Committee and the Co-Chairman of the American Bar Association, China Committee. He holds both an MBA and DBA, with concentrations in International Business. Tim is also an Adjunct Professor in Webster University’s MBA Program, teaching (1) Globalization, (2) Anti-Competition & Anti-Monopoly Issues, and (3) CSR courses. Tim also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at NYU Shanghai, teaching Organizational Ethics in its Masters’ Program. Finally, Tim is currently authoring a book on corporate compliance in China titled Ethically Powered.

    Helen obtained her LLB degree from Peking University in Beijing, and further completed GDL study in BPP Law School in the UK.

    She was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2008. She has previously worked in Herbert Smith Freehill's London and Hong Kong offices.

    Helen was ranked as a "Next Generation Lawyer" for dispute resolution in China by Legal 500 in 2020-2021, 2019-2020, 2018-2019 and 2016-2017. She is recommended by the Global Arbitration Review in its Who's Who Legal for each year from 2016 to 2021 surveys of future leaders, and was described as "excellent; a fantastic project manager; very good with clients; full of energy and with a great temperament."

    Helen is fluent in English and is a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese.
