AmCham Shanghai invites you to "Tips for Protecting your Mental Health Post-Lockdown" on Wednesday,June 29 from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm via Zoom webinar.


As lockdown measures ease and social restrictions are being lifted, return to normal life or the "new normal" may bring post-lockdown anxiety and uncertainty.


This session aims to help with COVID-19 post-lockdown anxiety and mental health. To help support us in our mental health and wellbeing, we bring together a panel with a professional counselor at United Family Health and the Founder of the mental wellness app Flow.

  • Tools to help manage daily stress and anxiety

    Dr. He completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Texas A&M University and postdoctoral fellowship in Health Science Psychology at University of California, Berkeley.

    Dr. He is licensed as a psychologist in Colorado and is credentialed as a National Register Health Service Psychologist in the United States. She also has a Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) suicide prevention instructor certificate. Dr. He is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Association of Chinese Helping Professionals and Psychologists International (ACHPPI), and Shanghai International Mental Health Association (SIMHA). During the past decade, Dr. He has accumulated comprehensive counseling experience in a wide variety of settings (e.g., jail, hospital, community mental health center, tele-behavioral clinic, university counseling center).

    Karlene is from New Zealand where she studied Psychology and Law at the undergraduate level before coming to China 20 years ago. She holds an MSc in Mental Health Psychology from the University of Liverpool and a post-graduate degree in Education from the University of Nottingham. She has worked as Clinical Psychologist, in tertiary education and corporate training throughout her career. Karlene’s approach to supporting clients in her clinical practice focuses on the bio-psycho-social needs of each individual, using an integrative approach blending modalities and therapies from Emotional Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Approaches to treat a variety of mental health problems and disorders. Karlene has extensive experience designing and delivering workshops and corporate training sessions on various topics related to workplace mental health, workshop facilitation skills, conflict resolution, negotiation, and overall employee and workplace wellbeing. She was the Operations Director and Training Manager at Lifeline China for five years and has also created training programs on suicide prevention and intervention having spent many years training volunteers to work on a crisis helpline for mental health support, covering a range of topics and issues such as relational violence, addictive behavior, and grief and loss. Karlene’s background also includes substantial experience in syllabus and curriculum design for tertiary education programs at master's and pre-masters levels, in addition to assessment creation and evaluation. Karlene has run training programs for Control Risk, Lifeline China, the British Council, the Community Center Shanghai, and Know Yourself and is a lead facilitator trainer for the Australian R U OK? Program in Shanghai. Karlene is passionate about raising awareness around mental health on a local and global level and aims to reduce the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding this crucial area of human existence.
