The AmCham Shanghai Technology and Innovation Committee invites you to our next bi-monthly US-China tech and innovation policy update on Wednesday, June 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., on Zoom.


The primary objective of these bi-monthly updates is to foster increased information exchange among individuals and member companies. This initiative gives participants a comprehensive understanding of the latest developments within the tech industry as we navigate numerous challenges in the year ahead.


Erik Walenza, Chair of the AmCham Shanghai Tech & Innovation Committee, will facilitate the meeting. Our guest speakers are Michael Frank, Senior Fellow at the CSIS Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies, and Kendra Schaefer, Partner at Beijing-based strategic advisory consultancy Trivium China, they will share recent tech and innovation policies and China's approach to AI policy.


Participants are strongly encouraged to share their perspectives and actively contribute to the discussion.

    Senior Fellow at CSIS

    Michael is a Senior Fellow at the Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. His research focuses on the international aspects of AI governance and regulation, and the trade, economic and geopolitical dynamics of AI. Michael previously worked as a public policy analyst with The Economist Intelligence Unit based in Hong Kong. At the Economist, he focused on technology and public policy, including themes such as the economic impact of emergent technologies (AI, 5G, IoT), international influence in tech-sector policymaking (tax, privacy, competition), and the US-China trade war and technological decoupling.

    Director of Tech Policy Research and Partner at Trivium China

    Kendra is a partner at Beijing-based strategic advisory consultancy Trivium China. She leads Trivium tech policy research team, keeping investors, companies, and governments briefed on Chinese tech regulation, with a focus on AI, data, and digital policy. She is chief editor of Trivium's premium Tech Daily newsletter, a policy brief on government-driven Chinese tech developments. Kendra also serves as a non-resident fellow at the National Bureau of Asian Research. Kendra began her career as a developer and user researcher in Beijing in the early 2000s, and spent twenty years in China managing digital development projects before moving into policy research and consulting.
