China CEO Interview Series, Episode 4

The spread of the coronavirus is drastically changing how businesses operate. China-based CEOs were the first to encounter many of these changes and have had to create strategies for fractured supply chains, government ordered lockdowns, and changing consumer demands. AmCham Shanghai presents a series of in-depth interviews with CEOs in China about their experiences managing through these extraordinary times.


This webinar will focus on operational issues in the manufacturing and supply chain industries. It will feature a discussion with Ryan Flynn, APAC President of ITT, and Douglas Brown,General Manager of Greater China at Flexport. They will talk about their experiences managing different aspects of industry during the coronavirus epidemic and its continuing aftermath, including the lessons they have learned, and how they are positioning their businesses for an anticipated recovery. The webinar will take place at 8 am, Friday, May 15th China Standard Time / 5 pm, Thursday, May 14th Pacific Standard Time.

    Ryan Flynn is an internationally accomplished executive with a career spanning over 25 years, where he has led large organizations and multinational businesses in various industries in a cross-cultural environment.

    He is currently the President for ITT in Asia-Pacific with businesses in Automotive, Railways, Aerospace, Chemical and Industrial sectors where speed to market, customer intimacy and product development are key success factors.

    Formerly Ryan was globally responsible for Konecranes Equipment Division, where he demonstrated business leadership, governance, acquisitions, joint ventures and licenses across a global geographic landscape.

    Ryan was earlier Vice President, Strategy & Business Development at BlueScope Steel and formerly also with Konecranes from 2005-2013 where he was Asia-Pacific President and earlier Director for Port Cranes & Lifttrucks businesses in Asia. He has lived in Shanghai China since 2005.

    Being an industry veteran, Doug has extensive leadership experience in the global supply chain and logistics industry. Starting his career as an international management trainee at Maersk, Doug spent his entire career working with world-leading logistics, shipping and freight forwarding companies including Maersk, CEVA Logistics, and Panalpina World Transport. Prior to joining Flexport, he was the Senior Vice President, Country Head of Sales, Greater China of Panalpina in Shanghai. Doug’s deep industry know-how has helped him successfully manage large-scale teams, deliver significant new business wins, and more importantly help customers maximize their global logistics and build agile supply chains.

    Doug holds a Master Degree in International Trade Law from University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. Having lived in Shanghai and Hong Kong for more than 12 years, in addition to his native English, he speaks fluent Mandarin. He is a keen sports enthusiast and is the father of an adorable 6-month-old girl.

Ted is a current member and 3-time elected Board of Governor of AmCham Shanghai; and former Vice Chairman of the Manufacturing Business Council of AmCham Shanghai.

    Ted is a Mandarin speaker and holds an MBA from The University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.
