    Lily Chen

Founder and General Manager of Essential Benefit Solutions Co., Ltd.

Chen graduated in June 2001 from Paul Merage Business School at the University of California, Irvine with an MBA in marketing and strategy. She started her career that year at World Link Medical Center and worked her way up from account executive to marketing and account services director, expanding her responsibilities beyond Shanghai and overseeing the expansions of World Link in other cities such as Chengdu.

While at World Link, Chen oversaw the marketing and sales of a financially hemorrhaging incubator company. When Parkway Health acquired World Link, she joined the incubator as a general manager, hoping to gain experience in attracting investors and managing finance and HR operations. She managed to help the firm break-even within 18 months. Chen founded The Martec Group’s Shanghai Office in 2007 with her husband and started her own company, Essential Healthcare, the following year as one of the first healthcare administration firms in the Chinese market. The firm first received business from an international bank, and now manages the healthcare services for employees of over 100 multinational companies. In 2015, Essential Healthcare merged with Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) to form JLT Essential Benefit Solutions. Chen replaced her husband as the manager of Martec Shanghai in 2018 due to changing family circumstances. Despite having little prior understanding of the company and its operations, Chen poured her efforts into Martec’s business development and managed to help the firm achieve 43% new business that year in the face of the US-China trade war.
