AmCham Shanghai will host the 9th and last COVID Update Briefing at 9:00 to 10:00 am on Thursday, June 9. This session will focus on the new normal during Covid and what companies should expect moving forward. Joining the session will be Kent Kedl, Partner at Control Risks, Thomas Shao, Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Abbott China and Wong Hong, President of Greater China and Singapore for Delta Air Lines. The panelists will provide brief remarks on lessons learned during this period and best ways to prepare for changing situations in the future. They will also answer questions from members.

    Partner at Control Risks Group (Shanghai) Limited

    Kent Kedl is a Partner in Control Risks, Greater China, and North Asia. He is responsible for Control Risks’ practices across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the Koreas, and Mongolia. He has worked in Asia since the early 1980s.

    Kent has consulted with multi-national and Asian corporations on a range of risk and strategy issues, such as M&A and organic growth strategy, crisis management and operational business controls, and strategic and organisational development programs. Kent has particular expertise in the Asia-Pacific healthcare, food and beverage, and consumer products sectors.

    Formerly, Kent was responsible for the Compliance, Forensics, and Intelligence practice throughout Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining Control Risks, Kent was general manager and co-owner of Technomic Asia, a market strategy consulting firm.

    Kent has worked as a journalist and is a frequent contributor to Asia-based media outlets. The co-author of The China Ready Company (2006, China Pathways) he writes and produces The Talking Monkey, a blog and podcast on living as a foreigner in China.

    Kent has a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in East Asian studies from the University of Minnesota. He also completed graduate studies in journalism and mass communication at the China Times Centre for Mass Media and Social Studies.

    With a Master’s Degree in International Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Thomas Shao started his career in Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce in 2000. He served as the Chief English Interpreter for Mayor of Shanghai for 7 years before he was promoted to Assistant Director for Foreign Investment Promotion Department in 2007. In 2012, he joined Evonik Degussa China as Senior Manager for Public Policy. In 2014, he joined Abbott as the Associate GA Director. Now he is
    GA Director of Abbott China, responsible for policy & strategy and crisis management as well as supporting manufacturing operations in China.

    President – Greater China and Singapore at Delta Air Lines

    Wong Hong is President – Greater China and Singapore for Delta Air Lines. He oversees and manages Delta's strategic and competitive financial position, as well as sales and marketing in the Greater China and Singapore region.

    Under Wong Hong’s leadership, Delta has significantly grown its China presence and commercial capabilities with strong expansion in both Shanghai and Beijing. Wong Hong is also being appointed as Delta’s observer member of the China Eastern Board of Directors.

    Wong Hong joined Delta in March 2016, from SATS, a leading service provider for the aviation industry, where he served as Executive Vice President of Food Solutions. He joined SATS in July 2012 as Executive Vice President for Gateway Services, and also sat on the Boards of a number of SATS' subsidiaries and associated companies.

    Prior to SATS, Wong Hong was Regional Director, Asia Pacific for Industry Distribution & Financial Services at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). He was responsible for managing IATA's airline settlement systems and its accreditation program covering passenger and cargo agents across the Asia Pacific region.

    Previous to his position at IATA, he spent three years with MasterCard International and 13 years with Singapore Airlines, holding various marketing and management posts, including overseas positions in five countries.

    Wong Hong holds a Bachelor's degree (Honours) in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore. He is also a member of the Harvard Business School alumni.
