AmCham Shanghai will host the 7th COVID Update Briefing at 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, May 20. This session will focus on logistics and the resumption of operations as the Covid situation continues to improve. Joining the discussion will be Veronica Acurio, Senior Vice President at 3M China, Jarrod Ward, Chief Business Development Officer for East Asia at Yusen Logistics, and Huiping Yan, CFO at ZTO Express. The panelists will provide a brief overview on the current state of logistics and answer questions from members.

    In her current role as Area Vice President, Veronica is responsible for all of 3M’s Health Care Business in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

    Previously she was President and Managing Director of 3M Taiwan. Prior to that, she was the Global Platforms Director for the Medical Solutions Division. Veronica is a transformational and growth-driven business leader. Her successful results have been driven by her ability to influence stakeholders, quickly grasp business needs, and create strategies to drive change. A strong leader who develops high-performance teams, Veronica identifies the talents of her team and builds on those strengths – always encouraging stretch goals and risk-taking. Over the course of her career, she has successfully paired strategic and operational business experience with strong financial, sales, and marketing functional experience. Her business and marketing expertise spans Market Research, New Product Development, Strategic Planning, Pricing, CRM, Portfolio Management, and Brand Management. Veronica began her 3M career in Peru, where she held positions of increasing responsibility in Finance, Sales, Sales Management, Country Business Leadership, Corporate Marketing & Public Affairs, and Customer Service. In 2002, Veronica joined 3M Corporate Marketing as Marketing and Strategic Planning Manager for Latin America and Africa. In 2004, she was appointed Global Marketing Operations Manager for 3M ESPE. In 2008, she was named Global Business Director for Restorative Dental Products, and in 2010 she assumed the responsibility of Global Business Director for C3SD Acute Care Business. In 2013, she was appointed Business Development Director, Health Care Business for Latin America. Veronica has been actively involved in supporting women’s leadership and community programs. In 2019, She was the chair of the American Heart Association chapter for women. Veronica holds a Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance from the Universidad del Pacifico, in Lima, Peru.

    An experienced industry professional with over 20 years working in the logistics and supply chain solution industry.  Jarrod is currently the Chief Business Development Officer for East Asia at Yusen Logistics, a member of the NYK Group.  He is also responsible for their Supply Chain Solutions division in China.

    Jarrod has held senior leadership positions in Japan, Singapore, and the USA, including over 16 years at NYK Line container division. 

    Jarrod received his MBA in Supply Chain Logistics from Rutgers University in 2007.

    Jarrod graduated from Washington & Jefferson college, and has his roots in western Pennsylvania.

    Ms. Huiping Yan, CFO for ZTO Express (Cayman) Inc. (NYSE: ZTO and SEHK: 2057), a world leading and fast-growing express delivery company based in China. Before joining ZTO in January 2018, Ms. Yan spent approximately six years serving as the Chief Financial Officer of Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba and Home Inns, a leading economy hotel chain in China. Prior to relocating to China in 2009, Ms. Yan spent 11 years at General Electric Company, serving in various key roles in corporate HQ and operational P&L finance in the US as well as China. Ms. Yan has six and a half years of public accounting and tax service experience with Deloitte & Touche US. Ms. Yan studied at Shanghai International Studies University, where she majored in English literature and linguistics and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an accounting major from Hawaii Pacific University in August 1991. Ms. Yan is a U.S.-certified public accountant plus a CGMA designation by AICPA.

    ZTO was founded in Shanghai in 2002. Benefited from strong ecommerce growth in China, ZTO has developed a world leading express delivery operation with an average daily volume that exceeds 65 million covering 99% of county level cities in China. With its stable partner network and cost leadership, ZTO achieved high regards for its customer satisfaction as well as strong profitability. With approximately 26% share of total volume, ZTO contributed as high as 80% of net profit amongst franchised-model express delivery businesses in China for the past five years.
