The US-China relationship is arguably the most important one for the world. The two "Big Nations" are both significant contributors to the world economy and political dynamics, and have seen growing tensions around trade, technology and other geopolitical issues, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
AmCham Shanghai's Technology and Innovation Committee will host an event on Understanding US-China Relations in the Context of Tech and Digital Trade on Wednesday, November 9, from 15:00-16:30 in the AmCham Shanghai Conference Room.
Our guest speaker is George Chen, Managing Director at The Asia Group, who had a front seat as a witness and stakeholder in US-China relations during his time at Meta (previously known as Facebook), helping the US tech giant deal with China. He believes that the US and China still see strong economic value from the other side and that "decoupling" has proven to be the wrong policy option for the two countries, not to mention the rest of the world.
During this presentation, George will use real-world case studies of tech companies like Meta, Amazon and Google to demonstrate how they deal with China during periods of bumpy bilateral relations and why "decoupling" may eventually harm American consumers' interests. George also encourages his audience to read beyond eye-catchy media headlines and go deeper into economic happenings in the real world, and to think about the impact on US-China relations that multinational companies will continue to make.
