Session Outline

Participants in this highly interactive, full-day training will learn:


a) How to react to a crisis situation at work: a) in the first 15 minutes, b) first 2 hours, c) first day d) until resolution – to effectively manage internal and external communication


b) How to assess the effectiveness of your company's Crisis Communications Plan: Is it up-to-date, realistic, and feasible given today's highly digitized work environment? Is the social media policy clear, easy to follow, and fully understood by employees? Do employees know when and when not to post information about a crisis on WeChat? Do all employees know when and how to respond to media?


c) How to leverage the media and social media influencers: Receive tried-and-tested advice on how companies can best contain the damage caused by negative postings and reports.


d) Spokesman training: In an actual crisis, any company representative may need to act as designated spokesman (reporters won't wait for the spokesman to arrive). Participants learn detailed do's and don'ts for representing their company to the media.


e) Video-taped crisis statements: Learn professional tricks and tips for successfully delivering live statements on TV and during under high pressure press briefings.


f) Managing a press conference: How to maintain control and protect the company's image during an aggressive crisis briefing to media.

    Dr. Laurie A. Underwood is an American communications specialist, professor, and corporate trainer / consultant with 20+ years of work experience in Greater China. Her expertise in crisis management and communications stems from five years as corporate communications director Asia Pacific for Air Liquide, a F500 industrial gas company. She has successfully trained hundreds of executives in the knowledge, skills, and drills needed to ensure “crisis readiness” for teams spanning a wide range of functions and operations. Other areas of expertise include cross-cultural communications, presentation skills, media/social media strategy. She is the co-author of China CEO, China Entrepreneur, and the upcoming China CEO II (John Wiley, 2020). Dr Underwood holds an MBA from CEIBS and a DBA from Grenoble Ecole de Management. She has lived and worked in Shanghai since 2002.

Registration

  • All registrations shall be made online before the session. For full-day sessions, payment also shall be made before the session.
  • For half-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend free of charge with Training Credit*; AmCham Shanghai members without Training Credit are eligible to attend at "Member Rate"; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at "Employee Rate".
  • For full-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend at "Member Rate"; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at "Employee Rate"; Non-members are eligible to attend at "Non-Member Rate".
  • Limited spaces are available and attendance will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Walk-in and Cancellation Policy
  • This session requires confirmation of attendance in advance. If you attend this session without prior registration, you will be charged an RMB50 "walk-in" fee as member and RMB100 as employee.
  • Cancellation: If you need to cancel your registration for a half-day session, please notify Ivette Corominas at (86 21) 6169 3010 or email ivette.corominas@amcham-shanghai.org no less than 24 hours in advance. If you need to cancel your registration for a full-day session, please notify Ivette Corominas at least two weeks prior to the session for a full refund. Cancellation made within two weeks before the session will not be refundable.
  • To ensure that you have a seat, please come to the session on time. Open seats will be released to other guests 15 minutes after the session starts.
