The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai's Suzhou Center cordially invites you to join the Suzhou GM Networking | DC Doorknock Debrief and Recent Observations on US-China Relations on Tuesday, May 26, from 2:00 PM to 3:40 PM at the W Hotel Suzhou.


Chamber President Eric Zheng will share first-hand observations following his recent trip to Washington, DC. The session will cover the direction of bilateral ties, key takeaways from meetings, and what shifting geopolitics mean for businesses operating in China. We will also take stock of China's mid-year economic performance, including consumption, policy signals and market sentiment.

    Eric Zheng

    President of The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai

    Eric Zheng became the President of The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai in 2022. He has been involved in the Chamber for over 15 years as a member, committee leader, Board member, Board treasurer, Board secretary, and Board vice chair, and Board chair (2018 and 2019).

    Eric brings a unique combination of private and public sector experiences to the presidency. He worked in management consulting with PwC in the U.S. and later served for the U.S. Department of Commerce as the principal commercial officer at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou. Eric had a long career with AIG in Greater China and held a series of positions that culminated in his service as CEO of AIG China. He then chaired the board of Heng An Standard Life Insurance Company.

    In volunteer roles, Eric serves as the Greater China regional chair of the Committee of 100 and as a board director of Shanghai Make-A-Wish Charity Foundation. The Shanghai municipal government has granted Eric its Magnolia Gold Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the city. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Fudan University and an MBA from Georgetown University.

    Yifei Zhang leads Control Risks’ China business. He manages our strategic relationships in China, coordinating teams and resources around the world. He helps our clients understand and mitigate the risks they face in China’s ever-changing environment, enabling them to stay resilient and seize opportunities both within the country and more broadly.

    Yifei has extensive experience providing multinational companies and investors with solutions in China across business strategy, market and business intelligence, and compliance reviews. He has worked with numerous multinational clients on investigations into compliance breaches, responding to extortive whistleblowers, and crisis management and negotiation planning for companies facing restructuring.

    Yifei also supports Chinese companies with risk management planning for outbound projects, evaluating new business partners, and resolving business disruption and complex security matters overseas. He helps clients identify and prepare for varied risks in a global environment, improving and evaluating their security management, training programmes and market entry approaches.

    He has worked closely with clients across the ICT, financial services, automotive and healthcare sectors.

He has been a regular guest for international media, featuring on the New York Times, the South China Morning Post, Reuters, and CNBC, and has spoken at many events hosted by chambers and industrial associations in China. Before the EIU, Tianchen worked for several Chinese and international firms and organisations, including the United Nations Secretariat, Bloomberg, and JD.com.
