Thilo Hanemann is a Partner at Rhodium Group, and leads the firm’s work on global trade and investment.

Thilo supports the investment management, strategic planning, and policy analysis requirements of Rhodium clients within his fields of expertise. He is also a Senior Policy Fellow at the Mercator Institute for China Studies, Europe’s biggest China think tank, located in Berlin.

Thilo’s research focuses on new trends in global trade and capital flows, related policy developments, and the political and commercial dynamics of specific transactions. One of his areas of expertise is the rise of emerging economies as global investors, and the implications for host economies and the global economy. His most recent work focuses on the evolution of China’s international investment position, and the economic and policy implications of this new trend.

Adam Lysenko is as Associate Director at Rhodium Group, specializing in novel data-driven approaches to assessing China’s international investment flows and related policy dynamics.

His areas of expertise include cross-border Chinese venture capital investment, Chinese inbound and outbound foreign direct investment as well as Chinese domestic investment and corporate organization, with an emphasis on emerging technology areas. Adam has co-authored several public reports on related topics and has been featured prominently in news media such as NPR, the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times.

Prior to joining Rhodium, Adam spent several years in buy-side institutional asset management roles overseeing fixed income and alternative assets portfolios. Adam was a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder from 2016 to 2018 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Kurt J. Berney represents technology, fintech, medical equipment/health care, new media, consumer and other companies, as well as the venture capital/private equity funds and investment banks that invest in and provide investment banking services to those companies. Kurt has more than 20 years of experience in diverse practice areas including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and private debt and equity financings. He leverages his accounting background and public company governance experience to handle accounting and other special investigations.

Kurt’s representative People’s Republic of China (PRC) clients include companies such as Acorn International, Mindray Medical, and WuXi Pharmatech, and numerous VC/PE and each of the major investment banking firms, including representing the underwriters in the recent LendingClub IPO. He is a frequent speaker/presenter on cross-border M&A transactions, the global IPO process, international capital markets and financing transactions.

Prior to joining O'Melveny, Kurt was a partner with Silicon Valley's largest technology-focused law firm. He also practiced in the New York and Hong Kong offices of a major Wall Street law firm.

Kurt also is a Certified Public Accountant.

David J. Ribner counsels US and foreign clients on international trade and investment regulatory matters, including trade and anticorruption compliance. His practice focuses on advising clients seeking national security approvals of foreign investment by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Mr. Ribner also counsels clients on US economic sanctions, export controls, customs laws, and antiboycott regulations as well as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). His clients span a variety of industries, with a focus on companies operating in the technology and energy sectors.

Ker Gibbs first came to China in 1985 and has worked in various roles giving him broad exposure to US-China relations and business issues facing American companies operating in Asia.

In the 1990s Mr. Gibbs worked for the Boston Consulting Group in Shanghai. Since then he has split his time between Asia and Silicon Valley, serving in executive positions with Apple, Disney, and high-growth Internet businesses. He moved to Shanghai in 2002 as head of Asia Pacific for a Nasdaq-listed network security company that was acquired by McAfee. His career in high tech led him to banking; he became head of technology and media in greater China for HSBC. As an investment banker he worked with Alibaba, Baidu, and other firms advising on mergers and cross-border transactions.

From banking Mr. Gibbs moved to direct investments. He was a founding investor in the Crystal Orange hotel group, helping grow the company to 130 properties and 1,500 employees in China. He also led successful investments in real estate, e-commerce, and medical technology companies.

Before his appointment as president, Mr. Gibbs was elected three times to the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and served as chairman for 2016 and 2017. He also sits on the board of the United Way in China and volunteers with Renewal, a local homeless shelter. He is an op-ed contributor to the Wall Street Journal, South China Morning Post, and other publications.

Ker Gibbs holds a BA in economics from UCLA and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
