The AmCham Shanghai China Business Climate Survey is one of the longest running surveys of U.S. business in China. This year, 333 companies shared their views and insights on a wide range of topics, including company performance, challenges and investment, trade policy, tariffs, headcount, competition from domestic firms and the China International Import Expo (CIIE).


AmCham Shanghai, in conjunction with our report partner, PwC, cordially invites you to the release of the 2019 China Business Report on Wednesday, Sept 11, from 11:45–1:50 at the PwC Innovation Center. This buffet lunch presentation is a rare opportunity to learn what your industry peers think about the operating environment in China. Panelists will offer their interpretation of the data, as well as opinions on the opportunities offered by trends such as growing consumption in China.

    Management Consulting Leader at PwC

    Mark Gilbraith leads PwC Consulting’s consumer health and technology business unit across China and Hong Kong. He has been based in Shanghai for 14 years and enjoys working with both MNC and domestic companies in solving their problems as they address the challenges and opportunities in the market. Prior to China, Mark was based in Sydney after coming across from America. He has experience across retail, consumer products, pharmaceuticals and entertainment.

    Jeff, a partner in the Hong Kong office, has spent the majority of his career serving a number of US, European and Asian based clients. Specifically, he has extensive experience in the areas of M&A advisory, post deal integration and divestiture, globalization strategies and cost reduction. Currently, Jeff is the COO of the China Consulting practices. Jeff recently returned to China where in 2004-2010 he had a number of leadership roles including leading the China firm’s Advisory Consulting Practice and Automotive Practice leader.

    Group CEO of naked Group

    Manoj Mehta is chief executive officer at naked Group. The group includes naked Retreats, which has expanded to naked Castle, naked Water (Suzhou), naked Forest (Nanjing) and the forthcoming naked Creek (Hanzhong).

    In 2015, naked Group entered the co-working market and opened the first naked Hub in Shanghai. Within two years, naked Hub successfully completed 2 rounds of funding and expanded to 50 locations across China, Vietnam, UK and Australia. In April 2018, naked Hub and the global co-working powerhouse WeWork announced their plans to join forces.

    Prior to naked Group, Manoj worked for Goodyear and Ford Motor Company. He has also served a as an independent board director of Triangle Tyre Group, one of China’s largest tire manufacturers. Manoj is an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Advisory panel of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). He is also President of the Shanghai Cricket Club.

    Bryce Whitwam is the CEO of MRM//McCann in China. Whitwam is a 20-year veteran of the marketing communications business, particularly in Asia. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Bryce is one of Asia's pioneers of non-traditional advertising, specializing in retail communications, brand activation and promotions. He's held various positions in the communications industry starting with AC Nielsen, moving to starting up RTC's office in Hong Kong. In 2000, Whitwam moved to the advertising business holding a regional position with Lowe & Partners in Thailand before moving to Shanghai in 2005 with Ogilvy and later joining Nitro Advertising in Shanghai. In his last role he was CEO of Wunderman Greater China.

    Jiwei Ye is head of transaction banking (TB) at Standard Chartered Bank China, where he leads the bank’s provision of cash management, trade finance and securities services to the its commercial banking, corporate and financial institution clients.

    Jiwei joined Standard Chartered China as head of cash, transaction banking in Sep 2016. In this role, he was responsible for providing cash and liquidity management services and treasury solutions to corporate and institutions with a key focus on operational efficiency and work capital optimization.

    Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Jiwei was managing JPMorgan China’s treasury services multinational corporate sales team. His previous roles in JPMorgan also included running JPMorgan Chase Vastera’s Asia Pacific operation together with the company’s trade consulting and managed services divisions.

    Jiwei regularly presents at industry trade groups, seminars and conferences. He enjoys travelling and reading in his spare time.
