Lawyers and other professionals write for a living. We continuously strive to improve our writing skills. Whether we are writing to a client, another lawyer, or a decision maker, or we are drafting a contract, me must write clearly and effectively. This program presents some twenty rules for effective writing. These rules apply to all those for whom writing is a necessary skill.
The simple rules include avoiding the passive voice and misplaced modifiers, using short sentences and paragraphs, and more. For the young writer, these rules will be of great help in improving your writing. For the more experienced writer, it never hurts to remind yourself of these basic rules. As you will see from the materials used in the program, many of these rules apply to writing in English as well as in Chinese.
