As we begin 2022, the prospects for China's economy remain unclear. Last year, China faced a number of policy and economic uncertainties such as the power supply shortages and the potential Evergrande collapse, all while it continued to manage the impact of COVID outbreaks. 2022 will bring many political milestones, continued COVID outbreaks and continued supply chain uncertainties. How will these stresses impact the Chinese economy? Will China continue its transformation to a consumer-based economy or will geopolitical issues and COVID restrictions dampen China's growth?


For the January Monthly Member Briefing, AmCham Shanghai is pleased to welcome renowned Chinese Economist Dr. Andy Xie on January 11, 2022 at The Sukhothai Shanghai to discuss the 2022 economic outlook for China. Dr. Xie was the Asia-Pacific Economist at Morgan Stanley from 1997 to 2006 and was voted one of the 50 most influential persons in finance by Bloomberg in 2013.

    Dr. Andy Xie

    Economist

    Dr. Andy Xie is a Shanghai-based independent economist specialising in China and Asia, and writes, speaks and consults on global economics and financial markets. He joined Morgan Stanley in 1997 and was managing director and head of the firm’s Asia-Pacific economics team until 2006. Prior to that he spent two years with Macquarie Bank in Singapore, where he was an associate director in corporate finance. He also spent five years as an economist with the World Bank. He was voted one of the 50 most influential persons in finance by Bloomberg magazine in 2013.
