Despite a rocky start to the year, China is eager to show foreign investors the country is open for business. The Foreign Investment Law, which coalesced the country's fragmented investment laws into a unified system, came into effect in January; the 2020 Negative List, which was released last month, further decreased the number of restricted industries to foreign capital; and numerous local regulations and subsidies have helped promote foreign investment as the country's economy slowed under COVID-19.
On August 12 AmCham Shanghai will welcome KPMG for a workshop on China's foreign investment landscape. Mark Harrison, Partner in Deals Advisory at KPMG, will first present an overview of China's recent foreign investment policies as well as the country's FDI landscape. Next, Mark will moderate a panel that includes Citibank China Executive Vice President, Managing Director and Head of Markets & Security Service Yang Ji, Winston & Strawn Partner Michelle Gon, and Merck Group Regional CFO Jens Rohne to discuss the legal environment and investment trends in China.
