AmCham Shanghai's Financial Services Committee (FSC) is proud to host the Chamber's 2025 Economic Outlook on Wednesday, February 26 from 12:00 pm -1:30 pm at the AmCham Shanghai Conference room.


The session will begin with a brief primer on the Chinese economy by Han Lin from NYU Shanghai, followed by a panel discussion. We will be joined by a distinguished panel of experts, including Nan Li from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Curt Ferguson from Ventech, and Zhengyuan Bo from Plenum, who will share their invaluable insights on a range of topics, including macroeconomic forecasts, consumer market dynamics, the property market, stimulus measures, trade, tariffs, geopolitical influences and more.

    Curtis Ferguson

    Managing Partner at Ventech China

    Curt Ferguson is a Managing Partner at Ventech China, where he helps lead the firm’s investments in consumer markets, fin-tech, and big data, with a focus on Chinese consumers. Curt was previously President of Coca-Cola Greater China, Korea & Mongolia. Prior to joining Coke in China, he held executive positions in the USA and ASEAN before being appointed Managing Director of The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Egypt in 2000. In late 2003, Curt became Senior Regional Director for the Western Africa Region and was appointed President of the North and West Africa Division in January 2005, covering 27 countries. Later his portfolio expanded to 34 countries to include the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan as President of the Middle East and North Africa Business Unit. Curt was named to the Forbes Top Ten influential leaders list in the Middle East for six consecutive years. In 2012, his MENA Business Unit was awarded The Woodruff Cup, an award recognizing top company performance.

    Curt holds a degree from the Indiana University Kelley School. He is also a graduate of the Executive Development Program at Stanford University. Curt sits on the Board of the Indiana University Foundation and Kelley Business School Dean’s Advisory Council. He is Chairman of Coca-Cola Bottlers Manufacturing Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries. Curt was named to The Indianan University Distinguished Alumni Service Award recognizing the achievements of alumni in different fields. Curt has extensive experience as a Board Director for Independent Bottlers, community, and business-based organizations.

    Nan Li is the Associate Professor of Finance at Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before that , she was with Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), as an Associate Professor in Finance from 2014.

    She is the Vice Director of SJTU Securities Research Investment Institute and an affiliated researcher in China Banking Industry at the SJTU Institute of Industry Research. After receiving her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 2005, she started her academic career in the Department of Finance, NUS Business School at the National University of Singapore. She was an affiliated researcher at the Risk Management Institute and the Institute of Real Estate Studies in NUS.

    Nan Li's research field is financial economics and financial econometrics, focusing on macro asset pricing. Her current works include pricing intangible capital and robust decision-making under ambiguity in the financial market. Her work with Lars Peter Hansen and John C. Heaton on Consumption Strikes Back? Measuring Long-Run Risk was published in the Journal of Political Economy in 2008. In addition, her articles and opinions on Digital RMB, Ant IPO Suspension, Default of Evergrande, Delist of Didi, and other timely topics in the financial market and financial regulations in China appeared on Nikkei Asia, Reuters, SupChina, FT Chinese, Xinhua net, the Paper, and other news media in English and Chinese.

    Nan Li teaches Asset Allocation and Risk Management in the MBA program, Introduction to Fintech, and all-in-English courses on Bank Management, Introduction to China Banking Industry, and Time Series Analysis in Macroeconomics and Finance to undergraduate and Ph.D. students. Her courses are open globally via online learning platforms such as iCourse, Global Hybrid Classroom Program of Global MOOC Alliance, APRU Virtual Student Exchange Program, and Jiao·Tong Global Virtual Classroom.

    Mr. Bo is the Founding Partner at Plenum Research, a leading organization focused on cutting-edge research and analysis. Prior to his role at Plenum Research, he co-founded GRISK, a risk analytics and early warning platform designed for financial and business professionals. Mr. Bo also served as a manager for The Dialogue Group in the Greater China region, where he gained extensive experience in strategic consulting and business development.

    He holds a Master's degree from Georgetown University.

    Associate Professor of Practice in Finance at NYU Shanghai and China Country Director at The Asia Group

    Han Shen Lin is the China Country Head at The Asia Group. Based in Shanghai, Han works in close coordination with TAG’s Washington, DC-based China Practice to lead the firm’s local presence and engagements in China, drawing upon nearly 20 years of in-country experience in China’s financial markets and corporate strategy. In addition to his role at TAG, Han is the Capstone Project Director for the NYU Shanghai MS in Quantitative Finance program and Assistant Professor of Practice in Finance.

    Prior to his current positions, Han was the Deputy General Manager of Wells Fargo Bank, China, where he served as Interim Country Manager and a member of the Management Control Committee, which oversaw the bank’s China governance and risk management. Han also led the China Corporate Banking business, which advised Wells Fargo MNC clients on their U.S.-China cross-border strategic financing and trade needs. Earlier bank roles included Asia Financial Institutions Payments Product Sales Manager; Senior Coverage Banker in the China Financial Institutions Group (FIG); and corporate strategic projects analyst.

    Han holds advanced degrees, including an MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, an MS in Global Finance from HKUST-NYU Stern, and an LLM in China Civil and Commercial Law from Fudan University Law School. He completed his undergraduate degree in business (BBA) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

    Han is active in the American Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai, having served on the Board of Governors and as a former Chair of the Chamber’s Financial Services Committee. He previously served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and Peace Corps (RCPV Ukraine). Han lives in Shanghai with his wife and two daughters.
