In recent years, conversations about the employment prospects of young people in China have drawn widespread attention. As the job market evolves, what should young people and their families do to improve the chances of young graduates finding meaningful first jobs and then build their careers?


Join AmCham Shanghai's Education Committee on Saturday, December 6, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the AmCham Conference Center for an event focused on "Exploring Future Career Pathways." This session will feature a panel of experts โ€” including HR professionals, recent graduates and school leaders โ€” who will share insights on how students can better prepare for the workforce, what employers value in emerging talent, and how educators and families can support the development of future-ready skills.


Target audience includes high school students, parents, and academic professionals involved in guiding young people's career choices.

    In her 20+ years career journey as a HR practitioner cross business partnering, talent acquisition and management, Jo acquired rich experience of organization design and change management.

    Jo is Recruitment Director for Accenture as Greater China, leading a team of 70+ people to deliver thousands of roles every year for its very diversified and dynamic workforce. Before Accenture, Jo was Senior HRBP for Southern & West China in Louis Vuitton, taking care of people performance and sales productivity. She also took accountability of leadership development and coaching, talent management and acquisition to support Louis Vuitton’s high growth in China. Prior to Louis Vuitton, Jo was the head of talent acquisition and talent development in C&A, rebooting performance review and talent succession mechanism. Prior to that, she was the national recruitment manager of Deloitte China for another five years.

    She is also a certified Erickson coach and NCDA career coach.

    This is his eleventh year as a leader in an international school.

    He attended Reed College, where he subsequently worked in admissions, before pursuing graduate studies in history at Princeton University.

    In 2020, he was honored with the title of “Warmest Principal” by the International Education Information Center (IEIC).

    Michael Coury has been working in education since 2006, with wide-ranging experience in school leadership, mathematics education, and college counseling. He has spent over 17 years teaching and leading in China, combining expertise in curriculum design, admissions and college counseling, and student guidance with a deep commitment to supporting the diverse needs of international learners. Michael holds an M.Ed. in Educational Technology from Moreland University, an M.S. in Mathematics from Montana State University, and dual B.A. degrees in Mathematics and Japanese from the University of Rochester.

    Since joining Shanghai Qibao Dwight in 2020, Mr. Coury has taught, IB-, IGCSE-, and AP- mathematics courses, served as the school’s Director of Admissions and College Counseling, and now is the American Principal. In these roles, he worked closely with students and families to support university applications worldwide, while also helping to shape the school’s academic and co-curricular programs. His passion for mathematics, student mentorship, and cross-cultural collaboration continues to influence his work as a school leader.

    Michael is especially dedicated to building strong faculty teams and fostering a supportive school culture in which both students and teachers can thrive. He believes in resilience, creativity, and the importance of igniting the spark of genius in every child — values that align closely with Dwight’s mission across its global campuses. His role as American Principal allows him to help strengthen connections across the Dwight Schools network, ensuring that innovation and collaboration remain central to the Qibao Dwight experience.

    Away from school life, Mr. Coury enjoys cooking and fitness, as well as spending time with his wife, young son, and their lively corgi named Udon.
