This month's December Monthly Member Briefing features a briefing from US Consul General James Heller. The event will take place on December 6, 2022 at Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park Hotel. CG Heller will provide an update on the U.S. - China relationship and the Consulate's activities. There will also be a Q&A session following his presentation.


Admission to this event is complimentary. This is a member only event, seats are limited. All members are required to wear a Business Card during the event for identification purposes. We are unable to accommodate non-member guests at this briefing.

When you enter the hotel, the hotel requires a green QR code "Sui Shen Ma", a valid 48 hours PCR Test. Wearing a mask in public areas throughout the event is required.


Please note the updated notice from the hotel, that people arriving in Shanghai from any other municipality in China within 5 days can attend the event in the hotel.

    James Heller

    Consul General at U.S. Consulate in Shanghai

    James Heller is a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service and Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai.  His previous assignment was Director of the Office of Japanese Affairs at the State Department. In Washington, Mr. Heller has also served in the Office of Taiwan Coordination, Office of Korean Affairs, the State Department’s 24/7 Operations Center, the Office of Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus Affairs, and the Office of Multilateral Trade Affairs.  Overseas, Mr. Heller has served twice at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing as well at the U.S. Embassies in Seoul and Kyiv and with Regional Reconstruction Team Erbil in Iraq.
    Mr. Heller has a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Michigan and is a Hopkins-Nanjing Center graduate. His wife Lisa is also a U.S. Senior Foreign Service Officer. They have an adult daughter and son.
