The commercial healthcare insurance market in China is growing at a rapid pace due to fast social development and policy encouragement. While the healthcare sector and insurance institutions push for more innovative and diverse insurance products to meet growing demand, the medical device insurance market remains a testing ground.


AmCham Shanghai's Healthcare Committee invites you to a discussion of Commercial Insurance for Medical Devices: Exploring Growth Opportunities on Oct 14, from 9:15-11:30 am at the AmCham Shanghai office. The event will delve into the current state, challenges and opportunities of the market.

    Vice President & CTO at Ping An HealthKonnect

    Mr. Yang is currently the Vice President & CTO of Ping An HealthKonnect, which provides health insurance solutions to different stakeholders in the healthcare system.

    Prior to joining Ping An, Mr. Yang worked in Japan for 13 years, and he held 12 years of working experience in the insurance industry, more than 20 years in the IT sector, 8 years in the healthcare industry. Mr. Yang used to be the vice president of Healthcare subsidiary at China Pacific Insurance Group, the vice president & CTO of Jiontown healthcare group, the vice president & CIO of Fosun health holding group, head of the health system at Ping An Technology, general manager of system development division at ING (Japan).

    Mr. Yang received an EMBA degree from Fudan University and is a lecturer of Ping An Leadership Development Program.

    Mr. Wang has been in the field of medical devices for 18 years, and has accumulated rich experience from high value consumable to low value consumable, ranging from surgical products to internal medicine intervention technology. He also has a comprehensive understanding of the medical industry and in-depth insights in the field of related equipment.

    Mr. Wang has recently devoted himself to researching and promoting the reform of the medical system, industry innovation, industrial ecology establishment, and the formation of disease-centric innovative solutions in the context of rapid economic and technological development. Mr. Wang received an MBA degree from the University of Michigan and a bachelor degree from Shanghai International Studies University.

    Before joining MediTrust Health, Eric used to be a consulting Director at WTW with extensive work experience in both China and UK insurance markets, and has provided actuarial, management and strategic consulting services for many insurance companies and groups.

    Eric has a Bachelor Degree of Mathematics from Cambridge University and a Master Degree of MSc Finance from Cass Business School.

    Peng Xu is currently a Principal at IQVIA’s Management Consulting practice, based in Shanghai. His team serves global and local life science companies, as well as investment institutions. His areas of focus include: New Product Launch Excellence, Brand Commercial Strategy, Pricing & Market Access, Business Development & Deal Advisory.

    Prior to joining IQVIA, Peng was a founding partner at HuiValue Consulting Ltd, a boutique firm that helped local and international biotechs on growth strategy and licensing deals. Prior to that, Peng held various leadership roles at Cubist Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Merck & Co in 2014) in the US, and more recently at Celgene China and Gilead China.

    Peng holds a Master’s degree from Boston University School of Public Health, and was a Graduate Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School. His research work at both schools focused on quality of care, and was published at <Annals of Internal Medicine>.
