AmCham Shanghai's Automotive Committee is excited to present our 2020 Automotive Conference. Our event theme is Adapting to a Two-World Scenario: China's Automotive Industry in the Aftermath of COVID-19 and Trade Conflicts. It will be held on August 26th from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at the JW Marriott in People's Square.

This is the annual signature event of the Automotive Committee and is being held during a very unique year for our industry where we are coping with multiple "black swan" events that have disrupted both the demand and supply side of our value chain. These disruptions occurred in an automotive market already challenged to keep up with an accelerated pace of technology innovation.

Rising trade tensions had already challenged a globalized industry when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. This has forced companies to focus on regionalizing product and supply chain strategies, potentially adding cost and limiting the ability to achieve global economies of scale. While facing this mandate, Carmakers and suppliers must also efficiently invest in the latest technology and shift to new market dynamics for people and goods movement. This presents entirely different challenges to the traditional automotive industry business model. The sector has long enjoyed the benefits of cross-border trade and is less familiar with the digital economy, formed around mobility-related services, that has entered the new competitive landscape.

In our signature automotive conference, we will bring leading thinkers and practitioners together to discuss and debate how the industry will evolve under these conditions. Come and join the discussion with industry insiders about their vision of the automotive landscape in China and their tactics to thrive within it.
