The AmCham Shanghai Technology and Innovation Committee and Financial Services Committee jointly invite you to our Post-Election Insight Series: U.S.-China Tech & Investment Policy Under the New Administration, scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the AmCham Shanghai Conference Room.


In this session, our distinguished panelists—Jade Lu, President of Shanghai Innovation Bank; Brett Barna, Founder and CIO, Barna Family Office; Erik Walenza, CEO of IoT ONE Inc.; and Han Shen Lin, Associate Professor of Practice in Finance at NYU Shanghai and China Country Director at The Asia Group - will engage in a critical discussion on the anticipated shifts in tech and investment regulations that will define U.S.-China economic interactions in the years to come.

    Jade Lu is the President of Shanghai Innovation Bank Co., Ltd.

    Prior to her current position, Jade was the president of SPD Silicon Valley Bank, primarily responsible for SVB’s Asia business, including China joint venture bank, SPD Silicon Valley Bank. SVB’s Asia operations include expanding extensive relationships with many of Asia’s dominate venture capital and private equity firms, as well as local Chinese innovation companies.

    With almost 20 years working experience in banking industry, Jade joined SSVB in 2017. She served as Chief Risk Officer, Head of Corporate Banking and Managing Director of SSVB successively. From 2001 to 2017, Jade has extensive experience in two leading international banks including Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) and Citibank where she has taken various senior roles and played instrumental role in the Group office, China as well as local branch’s strategic planning, business development and governance.

    Jade has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Fudan University and an IMBA from the University of Hong Kong. She is also appointed member of Science and Technology Innovation Advisory Committee by Shanghai Stock Exchange.

    Founder and CIO of Barna Family Office

    Brett Barna manages a portfolio of cross border early stage and public markets investments as proprietor of the Barna Family Office. He served as Chief Investment Officer for Galaxy Investment Partners, the family office of Michael Novogratz, co-founder of The Fortress Investment Group (formerly listed as FIG US). There, he managed an investment team deploying capital into liquid market strategies and opportunistic growth investments across several portfolios and worked on building the infrastructure for external capital.

    Prior, Brett managed money at Moore Capital Management for seven years, starting in 2009. At Moore, he directly managed money both for the investment funds and founder Louis Bacon’s family office. Brett generated over $1bn in P&L for the firm over seven years and, in 2011, was the youngest portfolio manager the firm had appointed.

    Before Moore, Brett was an analyst at Perry Capital and before that at the investment bank of Lazard Frères et Cie in New York. At the University of Michigan, he triple majored in Chinese studies, mathematics, and economics and was president of the Rugby Football Club. He currently supports several charitable foundations including The Robin Hood Foundation, Many Hopes, PANCAN, City of Hope Hospital, and Last Chance Animal Rescue.

    Erik Walenza is the CEO of IoT ONE Inc., the Chair of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) Smart Factory Task Group (SFTG), and the Shanghai Director of Startup Grind. IoT ONE is a leading source of information and insight regarding Industrial Internet of Things vendors and solutions. Companies work with IoT ONE to develop their customer bases, partner ecosystems, and innovation strategies. As Chair of the IIC SFTG, Erik works with IIC members to reduce the risk for early adopters of Industrial IoT technologies in manufacturing. Through Startup Grind Erik supports the development of Shanghai's innovation ecosystem.

    Han Shen Lin is the China Country Head at The Asia Group. Based in Shanghai, Han works in close coordination with TAG’s Washington, DC-based China Practice to lead the firm’s local presence and engagements in China, drawing upon nearly 20 years of in-country experience in China’s financial markets and corporate strategy. In addition to his role at TAG, Han is the Capstone Project Director for the NYU Shanghai MS in Quantitative Finance program and Assistant Professor of Practice in Finance.

    Prior to his current positions, Han was the Deputy General Manager of Wells Fargo Bank, China, where he served as Interim Country Manager and a member of the Management Control Committee, which oversaw the bank’s China governance and risk management. Han also led the China Corporate Banking business, which advised Wells Fargo MNC clients on their U.S.-China cross-border strategic financing and trade needs. Earlier bank roles included Asia Financial Institutions Payments Product Sales Manager; Senior Coverage Banker in the China Financial Institutions Group (FIG); and corporate strategic projects analyst.

    Han holds advanced degrees, including an MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, an MS in Global Finance from HKUST-NYU Stern, and an LLM in China Civil and Commercial Law from Fudan University Law School. He completed his undergraduate degree in business (BBA) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

    Han is active in the American Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai, having served on the Board of Governors and as a former Chair of the Chamber’s Financial Services Committee. He previously served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and Peace Corps (RCPV Ukraine). Han lives in Shanghai with his wife and two daughters.
